Musical Influences

House music is about all genres and all dj's however, having followed the more progressive dj's (not to be confused with the mis-used term progressive house meaning slighty weak trance and instead meaning music that progresses) Dj's like John Digweed who I have followed since the very beginning, and now dj's like Hernan Cattaneo have always impressed. Whilst 2many Dj's and dj's of that ilk are also enjoyed I really like to simply have the Dj perform and move the crowd. I am perhaps a bassline junky in all fairness, beast it good electro, breaks, tribal you name it, the bassline has to shake it!

Biography

Dj'ing since 1996 - Present Its all about the mixing dear! I create mixes from a long and experienced back ground of being a clubber when it all kicked off in 1993/4. The hac and the then very young Cream at Nation hosted dj's who played either House music or techno - not the 5 million genres floating around today! However, far from sounding like an old fart or a boring "all been said before" type of bloke I embrace the new and exciting music that is out there - that's why house is still here, it constantly excites and entertains us and I just cannot say no to a massive bass line and a solid kick drum! So, with all this in mind and from my ealrier days of Dj'ing clubs and bars and promoting a few nights - It's all about the dance floor. I don't make mixes that are for sitting at after parties mashed listening to "clever" mixes discussing the minimalness of it all. My mixes are about that bass line dropping, unexpected and delightfully rewarding mixes, the journey and the imagined dance floor. As a ridiculous foreign dude once said on a Global underground DVD when asked what he liked he replied: (in a ridiculous accent) "I like the old skool, the new skool, the techno, the house, the hard drum and the groovy groovy!" Description:

The title of this pretty much gives it away really.

I wanted to make a mix that was 80's influenced, not only by the style of the vocals and lyrics but also in the way that the mix feels. All the tunes are current however, hence the "slant" part of the title!

The mix moves quickly through the gears and there's a lot of vocals and melody, which is often missing in the more tech and minimal styles around today.

Have a listen and I hope you enjoy it, I had fun making it, although i did come back to it several times!!

Description:

The relaxed, laid back start is held together with a solid tech house backbone while light melody works over the top to keep things feeling warm and light. Quivver’s Surin takes a classic progressive route, very melancholy and deep, whilst Matt Rowan’s perky little tech house tune brings the mix into new territory.

I wanted this mix to keep the listener interested and yet blend some genres of tech, electro and house, whilst pushing the mix along with a constant groove in the basslines. Track 6 in particular I think will keep everyone entertained not only because of its clever arrangement but because as soon as it drops (after a clever wind) –you’d be bouncing like loonies on the dance floor and not be able to help it!

On that note I wanted to continue the groove and bounce and really drive the mix on into a new modern funk that contains all the elements and sounds I love to here throughout a night into 15mins before moving on.

As clever as you can be with mixing and blending sounds, I’ve tried to make each mix exciting before delivering a completely different bassline.

Am I talking nonsense? Who knows, have a listen!

Well couldn’t resist doing a mix to reflect the fun we had in Ibiza. I have endeavoured here to make a true mix for all those on our holiday. It goes right through the gears and contains some sounds that I heard from many of your record boxes whilst we were by the pool, partying or even trying to sleep. I also wanted to capture someof the tunes flying out of Sonica and Global, the wicked radio stations out there that grooved on 24/7 non stop on the island.

I hope you all enjoy the mix as much as I did making it and I even managed to get a tune on (Track 12) that Digweed played towards the end of his set on the terrace!

For those who have this CD and weren’t there, this should give you a good idea of what Ibiza was like for us and how varied some of our styles were but how well the styles worked when we back-t-backed on the decks throughout the holiday. Enjoy the music, its what its all about.
