Musical Influences

Dance music influences would be:
All the early Dj's i used 2 get lost on the dancefloor to, starting back in 1990, (Not sure who they were, it just didn't seem 2 matter back then!), but they played at The Warehouse in Leeds, The KU Club in Huddersfield, Gallery in Leeds, Back 2 Basics, Monroe's Blackburn(i think!), Zone Blackpool, Manhatton Heights (somewhere?!), Hi Flyers Leeds, and others ive forgotten.
Then, when Dj's became 'big names!' that i took notice of, (1992ish):
Graeme Park, Sasha, Todd Terry, Dave 'Joey Negro' Lee, Tom Wainwright, Tony Walker, David Morales, Marshall Jefferson, Frankie Knuckles, Tony Humphries, Ali Whitehead, Masters at Work and plenty others i cant think of. The Hacienda, Renaissance, Hard Times and Love 2 b, were also regular haunts, up until '95.
But i never got into the 'Dj worship' thing too much. Once i learned how 2 mix, and witnessed the mistakes i heard being played out, that the legends of the mixing game made, i realised they were just humans like me and everyone else!
There is definately a skill involved in the choice of records, and flow of a set that will keep the crowd buzzin', but i mean, 9 outta 10 dj's, are basically just playin' other peoples records! And even if they play their own creations, there is nothing uglier, than some dj, on an ego trip!
Influences on me outside of the dance music scene, cover everything from Rock n Roll to Disco, the Punk movement in the late 70's, 80's electronic stuff, the 'Madchester scene', and everything in between!
I'd name drop Joy Division, The Sex Pistols, The Smiths, The Happy Mondays, New Order(early stuff), Orbital, Underworld, Leftfield, early Prodigy, all had an effect on me with their albums & pioneering sounds!

Biography

Started clubbing & throwing shapes, way back in 1990, and was hooked from day 1. The music, the people and the atmosphere, was like nothing i'd ever experienced. Who'd have thought, 20 years later, the whole scene would still be going strong!?

The Warehouse, Back 2 Basics, The Gallery & Hi Flyers in Leeds, The Ku Klub in Huddersfield, Hacienda/ Manchester, Rennaissance/ Notts.(i think!), Zone/ Blackpool, Monroes/ Blackburn, Love 2 Be in Sheffield, were all personal favourites!

After teaching myself 2 beat mix, on a pair of odd, belt driven beasts, that i'd got in '91, i finally got a pair of Technics 1210's, in 1993, and never looked back, and they're still going strong to this day!

Played out at the KU Klub a few times in '93, and a couple bars in Majorca, during the summers of 92, 93 & 94, ( i took my records, in hope!), and have played on request, at various parties, small bars, & occasions, during the late 90's/early 2000's.

I've recently got a monthly residency, every 2nd saturday each month, djing under the Our House banner @ The Love Apple in Bradford, along with Our House promoter & dj Paul Foster & Wilson Frisk, who are both fellow house-mixers, (check 'em out too, if u like my vibes!) So if you're passing our way, why not drop in 4 a great night of quality house music!

My aim as a dj is simply 2 give people a good time, & mix as seamless as i can, with the best selection of tunes i can throw together. Be it just listening @ home, whilst driving 2 work & back, or letting yourself go on the dancefloor, on that 1 night u get now & again, to leave lifes troubles behind, that's what it's all about!

It should never be about the dj & his ego. Its just about having a good time & playing good music. And if i can play a part in that, i'm over the moon!

Gear / Music Equipment

Pair of Technics 1210's mk2's i've had since '93, and a 2 channel Numark M3 mixer i got in '09, cos my 'Realistic' mixer was completely shafted when i dug it up after about 9 years!
Plus one Pioneer CDJ500S, and a DENON 3500.
Also a Pioneer cd recorder, which has made life much easier, after recording onto old school cassette tapes, until pretty recently!

Artists Record Bag

Plenty vinyl, a lotta classic stuff from 1988-95ish, mainly vocal style u.s. garage & euro house, some funky, chugging, dubby stuff, few deep vibes, odd bit of early detroit techno, and some more recent and brand new, soulful, funky, deep or uplifting vibes, on burned cds.
