One of two Limelight tribute mixes I made this past spring. I was attempting to collect all of the tunes from the Charley Casanova Hot 97 set but I got sick of all of the crappy sellers on discogs marketplace so I've taken a break from that for a while. Another facet of being inspired by the Casanova set was to try to make my own "special" version of a popular tune at the time. I've made these before in the past but it's been 6 years since I've made a tune. The result of this was two remixes of Sound Factory Understand this groove. I like the second version better and thats in my other Limelight tribute called "God Intended" which will be uploaded soon. The two sets are ment to go together.
Why the curling? I was watching all the curling matches during this years winter olympics in Soci. I never really watched the olympics before as it never interested me however this curling sport is cool. It looks very easy to do and it reminds me of shuffle board. I used to kick old man ass at shuffle board when I was a little kid. So curling is shuffleboard on ice therefor it is very cool! Unfortunatly this sport is very hard to get involved with I found out. There is only one curling rink in NJ and its a tight knit club with a small rink, no spectating, and they certainly do not need new members! It's for reasons like this that the USA doesn't have a prayer at winning curling at the olympics. Canada however is going to kick ass everytime.
Anyway at the Soci olympics closing event, they played a tune I had heard before. It made me think of Mad Ragga Jon's "Original Bad Boy" right away. I found out it was Tchaikovsky "Piano Concerto No. 1" which is the tune that the Mad Ragga Jon sampled. So there it is, a direct link between Curling and Classic Techno. Ohh and Peter Gatian is a Canadian... Canada being the Curling capital of the world (besides Scottland).
