I've been feeling the late 80's vibe. Anthony H Wilson said that cultural revolutions come round in 13 year cycles. Started with the very first cultural revolution in 1950, with the Teddy Boys and Elvis. Next in '63 was The Beatles. '76 was punk. Then in 1989 came the 2nd summer of love, ecstasy, acid house, Happy Mondays and Manchester became the coolest place on the planet. Nowt happened of any consequence in 2002 so either Tony was wrong or Mother Nature just looked at the state of the world and said "fuck it". So 1989 was the only one of these Cultural Revolutions I lived through and while i might not have recognised the influences so much at the time up in Morecambe it was evidently a major factor in how the rest of my like panned out. I might never have been to the Hacienda (I moved to MCR in '97, the year it closed) the fashion, music and drugs have all played a part the life of Bez.Oh yes, even the name Bez. But to straighten that record right away I was first called Little Bez way before that crazy dancing mother fucker bust his moves on any stage. I come from a long line of Bez's and, as tradition would have it, my brother before me was Bez and to avoid confusion I was to be Little Bez. Till I got big. Bigger than Big Bez. Till there was no confusion, I was a big mother fucker, i was Bez.Without doubt the best thing I can see from 1989 was that everything came together. Hip-hop, house, technno, acid, hardcore, pop, rave, breakbeat, disco, indie, piano - these labels didn't count, it was all dance music. As long as it was baggy it didn't fucking matter. That is probably the thing I miss the most.Have a listen, no labels, no borders, no pretences no fucks given and none taken. Its just good music from about '88-'90. Hope you love it. All vinyl as always. Oh, except Strings of Life near the end, my cope was scratched as fuck so I had to play it off a CD - it wasn't mixing anyway, I'll buy another copy soon enough.Ramble over. Stay tuned for the next installment coming soon, Hip House - The Revolution. Don't call it a comeback .....
