Y2k hype in full effect! Dot Com bubble is bursting. From the shores of Ibiza to the deserts of Southern California, the feel good energy of trance music and progressive house fills the sound systems. DJs like Paul van Dyk, Oakenfold, BT, and Christopher Lawrence are lighting up the main stages of underground raves and festivals around the globe. Things were such simpler then. Two Technics SL-1200s and a mixer were all we needed to keep us going all night.
Whether you were into jungle, hardcore, house music, or trance... it didn't matter. We were one family coming together for a single cause. There was an energy about it. Something that simply can't be duplicated. Sure, we can put up dj mixes of playlists of old... we can revel in the wonder of the rave circa 1998... but it can't be duplicated because we didn't know what we were doing even then. There was no "plan" to make rave big. That 30,000 person festival of 2018 barely had 1000 twenty years ago. We weren't trying to make history, we were just at the right place at the right time.
Even at two hours, it was difficult to narrow down this set to these tracks. They're timeless trance and progressive house grooves that ruled my playlist back in the day. I did my best to clean up the sound but my apologies. Many of these tracks are actual vinyl rips that I did as a school project sometime around 2008.
