Bio
I’ve been collecting vinyl and putting together mixtapes, of varying music for the last fifteen years. I used to play trance but the trance boom (commercial takeover) in 1999 put me off what was once a creative source of music. The music became predictive, poppy, dull and formulaic.
Whilst studying in Nottingham, England I played funk, soul and hiphop at parties and in bars in the Hockley area. I also played at a monthly night with a friend at the Hard to Find Café Bar called Random Tandem where we could play anything we liked from the past, as long as people knew it and would love it. This gave us chance to be as creative and imaginative as we wanted to be. We also played breaks at the Blueprint club which was a real experience and a right laugh.
Since moving back to Sheffield i’ve been re-energised by the rise and rise of dubstep and the creativity that has come with it (although no more wobblers or chainsaws please!). I’ve also grown to love the spacey and funky sounds (that are a bit more musical and accessible) that have come with ‘liquid’ dnb over the last few years and at the moment there seems to be a limitless supply of new tunes coming out.
At the moment I’m looking for a residency in a bar or club in the Sheffield area. I can play funk, old school hip-hop, breaks and ‘liquid’ (I don’t like this term>pidgeon holing again!) Drum n Bass.
More mixes to come!

My Mixes / Tracks
Original Ninja-Tribute Mix by GreenlightuploadedAn hours tribute for the most eclectic, brilliant and innovative label from the UK...
The label was one of the first record labels in Britain to consistently embrace and release artists that create and perform new forms of electronic dance music since the 1990. Originally focusing on sampling, triphop and jazz trends of the time..
Matt Black & and Johnathan More (Coldcut) primarily created Ninja Tune in 1990 to act as a vehicle by which they could release music of a more underground nature, free from the restraints placed on artists by major labels.
Since then they have embraced all types of underground culture and dance music but from more of an outsiders view. There were no rules apart from the music should either have lots of heart or it would make people dance their asses off..That was all it was asking. Their roster is incredibly impressive introducing acts such as Mr Scruff, Coldcut, Roots Manuva, Toddla T, Daedelus, Herbaliser, Bonobo and the Cinematic Orchestra. All have gone on the bigger and better things whilst keeping that heart and soul that you can associate with Ninja.
Hope you enjoy.Rave/Drum n Bass 1990-2011 A History (Vinyl) by GreenlightuploadedA journey from the very roots of rave to the sounds of liquid drum n bass of today. From the basic breaks of Njoi to A young DJ Hype (The Exorcist) & Blame and the instrumental version of 'Let Me Be Your Fantasy' (so you can actual hear the breaks). Through intelligent dnb with Bukem, jazzy dnb with Roni Size and the hiphop style of Aphrodite and Urban Takedown. Finishing off with High Contrasts timeless 'Racing Green' and the hospital vibes of London Elek and Nutone. A look at the different styles of drum n bass and how it evolved into what it is today. The rise of UK Dance Music 91-95 Part 2-Progressive Trance by GreenlightuploadedCarrying on from Part 1 I've served up a mix of trancier and deeper tunes..Leftfield bucked the trend of hands in the air anthems and came up with a sound that was deeper and more serious. There were no pianos and the sounds relied less on melodies and more on soundscapes. The beats were tougher and more underground and were played to a more discerning crowd. It was more about the journey and less about the 'pop' sound.
Sasha and Digweed took this idea to a never before heard or seen level and pummelled crowds into submission on the dancefloors at Renaissance parties and Digweeds own Bedrock nights..The American producer BT took this sound into epic proportions with tunes that lasted up to 12 minutes long. I have mixed a selection of these tunes to coin a phrase, go on a journey..There really is some epic sh@t here..Also included are many brilliant vocals that opened the doors to most trance of the last 10 years. The rise of UK dance music 91-95-Part 1 House Music (Vinyl) by GreenlightuploadedA ride through the tunes and songs that made dance music at the time such a beautiful and creative force..From the Balearic sounds of Sunscreem to the handbag sounds of West End, on to the commercial sounds of Alex Party and the brilliant Cowboy Records 'If this is Love'. A perfect example of house music at its peak and what it can be without chasing the dollars and pounds..Toughening up with big room tunes 'Keep it Warm' and Crescendos 'Are You Out There', enough to take the roof off any party...And finishing with a couple of arms in the air trance tunes and finishing up with what I consider one of the best UK dance tunes ever, Graces 'Not Over Yet' The first ever trance tune with vocals?Smiling, Uplifting Drum n Bass Selection March 2013-Something for everyone! by GreenlightuploadedA slamming selection of uplifting dnb for parties, headphones and for you to bounce around your bedroom..From the peak time vibes of pure Hospital, the soulful sounds of the Makotos remix of Michael Jacksons 'Human Nature' to High Contrasts unbeatable remix of Missy Elliots ' We Run This'. Peaking with Chase and Status's destructive jungle anthem 'Duppy Man'. A big special mention for Zincs timeless 'Casino Royale' and SPY's funky as sh@t 'Riff Raff' ...A real selection box of breakbeats ready for your head, your feet and your heart...Concluding with the one record that all dnb heads love...You know you know it, you know you love it!..Big respect to Andy C! All together perfectly mixed by Greenlight.Journeys By DJ-AD by GreenlightuploadedA musical beats trip through Hiphop, Dubstep, 80s Electro, Classic Jungle and Funk Breaks..For fun, chilling, dancing, grooving, mooching and cruising..Inspired by the musical gods named Coldcut and their refusal to be pidgeon holed...It goes to prove that you don't need to know what it is to dance to it...Here comes the breaks! Finishing perfectly with a reggae cover of Michael Jacksons Halloween classic Thriller and the beautiful Rachels Song from Bladerunner..!2012 BBQ MIX by GreenlightuploadedMade this for a mates BBQ....Sounds of the summer..from funk to Disco, House to Hiphop...Drinking in the sun with your friends or warming up for the winter...You know the tunes, i love the tunes, you love the tunes...great for shaking your hips, doing your homework, getting ready for a night out, shuffling your feet, doing the robot or the mashed potato and just making you smile..ENJOY!Classic Early 90s House Mix-Vinyl by GreenlightuploadedClassic House mix full of memories of Pete Tong on Radio 1, Cream and Hacienda..Tunes which were hammered at every underground club in the early 90's....Tunes not just brilliant for their nostalgia but for their quality as well....Some amazing vocal performances from classic divas such as Billy Ray Martin, Carleen Anderson, Juliet Roberts and even Aretha..The sound of UK clubbing in the early 90s that pulls at the heart strings..ENJOY!Hospital Tribute 2011..F@ck Yeah! by GreenlightuploadedA genuine encyclopedic trawl through the sound of Hospital records over the last year or two...Not all the tunes are on the label but I discovered them through the label....This in my opinion is the sound of now..The sound of modern dance music..Keep yer dubstep! Drum and bass won't sell out but it will re-invent itself..! It just makes me happy and I can't get enough of it..Hope you like it people! :)Sounds of Nottinghill Carnival Classics 2011 by GreenlightuploadedBeen meaning to put this mix up for a couple of months..Packed full of Notting Hill Carnival Classics from the likes of Good Times and Channel 1 Soundsystems...All thats missing is a polystyrene tray full of curried goat and four chilled Red Stripes..Going through Reggae Dub, Hip Hop, Soul, Funk and onto magical house sounds...Perfect for hot August London bankholidays and for your home soundsystems..You dont even have to get heatstroke and squashed on the Tube trying to work out how to get to Ladbroke Grove...:) Enjoy..!Perfecto Mix 2 by GreenlightuploadedBack again with more Pefecto floor destroying tunes. Another selection of trance bombs. Starts off with early progressive trance from BT and moving through big room melodic trance tunes and onto psychedilic tunes that were played at the open air perfecto parties in ibiza. Tunes that were a big part of the 90s dance scene and blew up parties at Gatecrasher, Cream, Space, Ibiza, Homelands, Big Love, Heaven and Tribal Gathering...Hats off to Perfecto for making clubbing during that time an absolute joy....BRING IT ON!Here Comes the Drums by GreenlightuploadedNew hardcore mix i've done for July 2011...It focuses more on the drum breaks from 1992 & 93 instead of synth stabs and wailing noises. Tunes that are kind of pre-drum and bass. The first bit turns out to be where all the big tunes are and it goes a bit deeper and faster after the Acen tune that everyone loves. It finishes at the end with the gorgeous Rise Up which turns out to be pretty rare & has soulful elements in it, ten years before anyone started calling it liquid.. All this mix needs is an MC to chat sh*t all over it and take the attention of the music (Ok perhaps not!!)..ENJOY!!Easy Summer Days by GreenlightuploadedI hear so much good down tempo music residing amongst the club music of today..By both famous producers and up and coming artists...I just keep thinking I should put a lot of it together for a mix just to make me smile and hope get into it..Its not noodly floating ambience and not also music you can go crazy to in a club...JUST GOOD MUSIC!..There's not even a catagory I can put this into..Lets call it Downtempo electronica if I have to pidgeon hole it....Just hope you like..I LOVE THESE TUNES!! Perfect for a summer afternoon but not to make you fall asleep and wake up with a headache..ENJOY!
