I know plenty of people are prob rolling their eyes seeing me praise Randall again but things need to be said. Lol. There are djs that have great taste, djs who can pull tricks etc. But Jason Randall is what I call a performance dj. The man has a music iq that is off the charts and simply knows how to entertain and manipulate our minds. Great tracks can go unnoticed in a bad dj set and ordinary ones can sound massive when setup correctly. This set is the perfect example. This is a randall set so u know hes bringing heat but at 11 minutes in he has built so much tension that I want to smash something just to get my release. Once a beat drops on that no matter what the track is it will sound like the best track ever. And that is what djing is all about. Its not about playing new tracks or good tracks its about manipulating the music so it creates a story and evokes emotions that just plain listening to tracks could never do. Thats why I say jason randall is always going to be the best dj in the room regardless of the tracks he has available. No matter who is there. When I hear a set that starts with a full on kick right from the get go 99 percent of the time I will lose interest in the first 30 seconds ni matter how good that track is because I can go to youtube or wherever and just play tracks I like. When I hear a dj set I want to be led somewhere. I want to be teased and satisfied then teased some more and when its done I want to be begging for more and thats what this guy does. I remember back when techno first hit nyc and there was 100 of us dancing in abandoned garages and warehouses and most of the djs all had the same tracks because music was so hard to come by but there was the select few like frankie bones or lenny d or t1000 that knew how to set up the tracks and they would bring the roof down. As technology and music has progressed it seems that dj set has regressed as I hear time after time uninspired track to track 5 second mixes from so called superstar djs that in an hour set will have both hands in the air for 55 minutes. WTF!!!! I try and keep my comments positive but hearing a randall set brings out the best and worst in me. Why is this man not headlining every major techno event on earth? I dare anyone to find me 1 techno dj on the planet that can do it like this man does it and I will quit djing and start writing childrens books on potty training. Hahaha. This is the evolution of the techno dj set here. If techno was a mountain randall is the clouds that are out of reach. Friend or no friend he cant be topped or stopped. The reason I take a month to make a set is to pull shit off to impress this man. He has taught me more in 3 years than I learned in 20 before I met him. Hes even bringing in tracks ever so slightly shifted so u know that theres a predator lurking thats going to eat u alive any second now but it will still surprise u everytime. Enough said. All hail to the king!
