Technission: DEEP - Club Hits Mix -September 2014

It's been over a year since I last put a mix up so I was iteching to get this one online!

It was quite interesting taking a break from mixing because in my time away from it, it seemed like a new force in dance music was emerging: deep house.

I really enjoyed coming away from mixing and stepping back into a whole new repotoire of club songs (big room" progressive style house tracks pretty much dominated the clubs). I must admit I wasn't a massive fan of deep house when it initially started to storm the charts; I felt it was too calm and minimalistic compared to the hyped club music of time, however after many club nights and radio shows that laid down Deep House as the soundtrack to those moments in my life I started to become attached...

I've come to really love the catchy and soulful vocal melodies that are woven nicely into the beats and bass of Deep house tracks and stylistically the sound (at least for me) is remniscent of euphoric 90's dance music.

For this mix I picked the tracks that stood out most to me personally during the last year and like in all my other mixes I wanted this one to reflect the memories and meaning from my life at the time in a music driven sonic narrative.

I'm well aware that not all of the music in the mix is defined as deep house but I felt the flow and energy of the songs that aren't fit well into the narrative I was trying to convey with the mix.

I was a little inebriated when I recorded this one, so in the moment I was really feeling it but the professsionalism in mixing suffered slightly as a result.

Deep house was really fun to mix because of it's minimalistic and rhythmic characterestics; there is a lot more room for looping and effects and for general creative mixing compared to it's more sonically intensive EDM predecessors and I would be a happy man if you enjoyed hearing this mix half as much as I enjoyed making it..
