There used to be a sub-genre of dance music referred to - disparagingly - as Handbag. The thing is, I actually quite liked that style and gathered more than a few examples in my valuable antique vinyl collection. By far the best of the Handbag labels was Hooj Choons, a label that licensed in a lot of German and Dutch tunes during the mid-1990s. This mix offers some of the best tracks that came out of the House of Hooj, including "You Belong to Me" and "Son of a Gun" both by JX and "Treat Infamy" by Rest Assured, which channels The Verve's "Bitter Sweet Symphony" ... it's meaty, beaty, big and trancey.
