CHRISTMAS SURPRISE!

Here is a very special remix I've put together of the one and only Cher and 'Song for the Lonely' which came about from discovering an acapella in a pack from years ago. I've always been a huge fan of Cher, and tackling this remix was enormous fun!

I really hope you like it, it's the most difficult and rewarding mix I've done in a long time!

PRODUCTION NOTES:

- the piano and bass are the M1 and 'solid bass' patches which were a mainstay of '90s dance music

- the drumbreak in the breakdown is the classic James Brown 'Funky Drummer' loop, reaaranged and edited. I layered this with the classic 'Reece Bass' which was huge
across the '90s Drum & Bass scene. I was going for a retro mid '90s flavour for the breakdown but with links to modern producers such as Bicep, hence the reverbed vocals and dreamy pads.

- the clap before and after the breakdown is a homage to Edward Elric from FMA - I'm halfway through the 'Brotherhood' Anime series and thought it was cool to make the
track sound like it was performing alchemy to create the break! (I am a total nerd).

-the piano topline was added into the breakdown and the final chorus as I was going for a 'Gat Decor - Passion' / 'Qattara - Come With Me vibe.

-the vocals are from the Thunderpuss acapella, but as the chorus had harmonys baked in, I had to splice a chorus from the Almighty version from the CD single. It took me
a huge amount of time going through the vocals and trying to clean them up as much as possible.

- the vocoder effects are not actually on the original version - I added them in to create a throwback to 'Believe'.

- I was heavily influenced by '90s producers such as JX, Motiv8 and Italo legend Lee Marrow. Motiv8 actually produced the UK's entry for EuroVision in 1996, and England hosted the Euro  '96 football tournament the same year which is where the name of the mix comes from...
