=====================================================================================================
Contrary to popular belief, the Disco Music era did not die on New Years Day of 1980. There were several somgs that
would enjoy huge success between 1980 and 1982 that were taken right out of the disco mold. Having said that, the
bulk of 70's Disco Music which often featured the combination of an orchestra and band was almost immediately
replaced by a more funkier sound... with a little R & B thrown in as well. The lyrics were definitely naughtier and
more sexual in tone than most of the 70's Disco Music. This was my time! My DJ career was really picking up now
and for the next 15 years I worked just about all the time behind the turntables. The 80's brought good club...
freestyle... and of course House Music. This mix focuses on the early 80's and is the first of three that I will make
covering the 1980's. Enjoy!
======================================================================================================
The Artists featured in this mix by appearance
1. Imagination was a British pop/soul trio from the early 1980's who scored with their huge dance hit "Just An Illusion".
2. France Joli (born January 26, 1963) is a Canadian singer, best known for the disco classic "Come to Me." "Come to Me"
began a six-week reign atop the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play on 22 September 1979 and the France Joli album rose to
26. On the Billboard Hot 100 "Come to Me" peaked at #15 a symptom of the increasing disenchantment of pop radio with
disco music. Her other hits include Gonna Get Over You.
3. Hall & Oates is an American musical duo composed of Daryl Hall and John Oates. They achieved their greatest fame in
the late 1970s and early to mid-1980s with a fusion of rock and roll and rhythm and blues styles, which they dubbed
"rock and soul." They are best known for their six No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100: "Rich Girl", "Kiss on My List",
"Private Eyes", "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)", "Maneater", and "Out of Touch", as well as many other songs which
charted in the Top 40.
4. Sharon Brown is a singer-songwriter and musician who was born in Harlem, New York, US. She is the niece of songwriter
Phil Medley, who co-wrote the song "Twist and Shout". She is also the daughter of drummer William Brown, who played
with musicians such as The Isley Brothers and Cannonball Adderley. She had a hit single on the Billboard Hot Dance Club
Play chart in 1982 with the song "I Specialize in Love". This song spent three weeks at #2 on the Club Play chart, crossed
over to R&B Dance Music Charts.

6. Aurra was a 1980s soul group, which, at the time of its biggest success was composed of Curt Jones and Starleana Young.
Aurra started off in 1980 as an offshoot of the R&B-funk band Slave, which featured Jones, Young, Charles Carter, and
Buddy Hankerson. Their biggest hit was Checking You Out.
7. Central Line was a Brit-soul - funk quartet from the early 80's who had the had major dance hits with "Walking On Sunshine"
and "Nature Boy".

"I Hear Music in the Streets" and "Searchin' to Find the One", which were major hits on the US Billboard charts.
9. Suzi Q was a Canadian studio group who had a hit dance single "Get on Up and Do It Again" in 1981. The song peaked
at number 4 on the Billboard Dance chart and the second 1982 version at 12 on the same chart.
10. Sharon Redd was born in Norfolk, Virginia in 1945 and got a major break when she starred in an Australian production
of the rock musical Hair. In 1979, Redd recorded the disco hit "Love Insurance," under the name Front Page, her own vocals
going uncredited. But she soon signed a recording contract with Prelude Records, and placed several songs on the
Hot Dance Club Play chart, including "Beat the Street," "In the Name of Love," and "Love How You Feel." and
"Can You Handle It". In the midst of mounting a comeback in the early 1990s, Redd died of pneumonia on May 1, 1992.

success occurred in 1982 when their song "Thanks to You" spent two weeks at number one on the US Hot Dance Music/Club
Play chart in Billboard. The song also reached number 44 on the US Billboard R&B chart.
