Just when you thought those nifty little internet medleys called "MegaMixes" couldn't get any more extravagant, you were wrong. The longest megamix for a solo recording artist, featuring over 150 Janet Jackson songs has just hit the web. You can listen to the JANET JACKSON: Guinness World Record Mix by Effrem Adams for yourselves, clocking in around three hours long.
With a name like "Guinness World Record Mix", you cant help but become curious and intrigued by the idea. Global superstar Janet Jackson has been chosen for this record breaking megamix, spanning her 30 year music career. While sister Janet is most certainly eligible, one could argue that a Guinness World Record mix for the King of Pop would have been too cliche and overdone. Miss Jackson makes a refreshing choice.
Clocking in at 3 hours, you have to wonder how long it took to mix together such a gargantuas medley of hits. You have some excellent blends here that will get you turning your speaker volume up. There are some obvious choices like the "You Want This" and "Because Of Love" mashup. Janet's sassy "Sun Of A Gun" leads into the sexy recording of "IF", and DJ Effrem Adams makes sure to swap breakdowns with "Scream" in its place for good measure.
While it's not completely perfect, it's pretty close to flawless and keeps you on your toes wondering where it goes next. The most thought provoking moments hit you unexpectedly ("All Nite" with "Rhythm Nation"), however there are awkward times ("Young Love" with "I Get Lonely") when you just have to ask, what possessed him to come up with that? The typical DJ moments are there where he throws his name out into the mix like DJ's love to do. Oddly Effrem knows his limits and doesn't talk for ages over the tracks like many annoyingly would. Instead he does it to the pace of the beat, never yelling or screaming.
Like all artists there are some not so catchy tunes here, and the DJ seems to know this, spinning in and out of those tracks as quickly as possible, while letting hits like "Alright", "Nasty", and "Feedback" play out a little bit longer. You'll get most, if not all of Janet's major collaborations such as "What's It Gonna Be" and "Mr. Lover". There's a moment where "Sate Of The World crossed paths with "So Excited", making even Khia sound tolerable. Many unreleased tracks that you've probably never heard of are also included, keeping the most hardcore fans of Miss Jackson dotting there I's and crossing their T's.
This is a well deserved world record and reminding us why Janet is considered an icon.
