Bio
Born into a family of musicians during the Salsoul/Philly Soul disco era, Phil Pagan started collecting records in 1977 when he was 5. But it wasn't until 1981 when he first heard Grandmaster Flash scratching on a record, that he fell in love with the art of scratching and DJing. He spent the next several years mastering his craft, heavily influenced by Philly DJ's Jazzy Jeff and Cash Money and got his first gig at 13 years old at a summer block party which turned into a DJ battle that he won which led to other underground hip hop parties. After a while, his musical interests transitioned from hip hop to house music, bringing him back to his disco roots. From the streets of Philadelphia to the clubs of New York City, Phil Pagan has been serving a menu of house styles that includes Deep House, Classics, Disco, Tribal, Tech House and Garage. He’s played at major clubs such as Shelter, Palladium, Cielo and Stereo and was also part of a wave of underground tribal parties that captivated audiences in New York City. He went on to absorb influences from the likes of Gamble & Huff, Larry Levan, Masters at Work, Kings of Tomorrow, Danny Tenaglia, Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Tedd Patterson, Frankie Knuckles, DJ Pierre, David Harness, Kerri Chandler, Todd Terry and Angel Moraes. Since then, Phil Pagan has worked with an array of artists including Suzanne Palmer, Mario Vazquez, Heather Leigh West and Alana Simon from the group MK & Alana. He continues to produce new music using classic influences and is also working on his debut album.
