Back to house bizness with a varied collection of shakers - jackin, soulful, hip house, jazz, disco, deep. The good shit. Nobody would leave the dancefloor if you played these tunes live.
Respect due to Chicagohouseman & Adrian Van-Alst for helping inspire me to do a funky mix.
Throwing a mix all the way back to the very first mix I did in New
Mexico. Taking a long look back at the History of House Music in
Chicago from the days of disco, to the early days of the Warehouse, Acid
House, the roots of Ghetto House and Hip House, and everything in
between. Not all tracks were made from Chicago, but each help to
influence and shape the Chicago House sound. You'll notice Freestyle
and Hard House were overlooked in the search for certain influential
sounds. Beginning in 1972 and moving forward well into the late 90's,
see where house came from and the city it came from.
<<REPLAY<< Volume 8 (Bak2Wax Blackburn revisited) This is a rework of the set I played at Bak2Wax in Blackburn on 12 November 2011 (with one tune change). As usual, mainly late 80s and early 90s italo piano house with a fair dose of italo hip house, a few UK and US flavours and, I hope, some more old skool tunes that are fresh beats to your eardrums. If this kind of tuneage floats your boat, woos your groove or beats your feet then why not pay Bak2Wax a visit.. Nice quote from one of the resident DJs Chris Pearson: "......this is a party for friends and like minded people. We aren`t trying to take over the world or make a fortune, we just want somewhere to have some fun and listen to some decent tunes and let a bit of steam off now and again........."
OK, so what do you play when you get the 3pm opening set of a fine summer's day old skool party? It's 33 degrees and you know you're going to be playing to the bar staff, a few loyal followers and those in search of a refreshing ale or 7.Well... if you're me, you'll spend a few weeks culling thousands of tracks down to a few dozen appropriate tunes, cut them up into loops and phrases and assemble them into ableton in a way that lends itself to improvisation. Then you hit record and hope it sounds good.So here it is, a 115 bpm summer flavoured breakbeaty jam - very light on the acid (I don't think there's any actually), quite varied in it's choice of tracks and every track cut up, re-edited, looped and whatever else... not too many crazy effects though. For the most part it came out better than I expected - there were a couple of points when it lost sync during the New Order jam, but I've cleaned that up... everything else was pretty much done live in one take.Enjoy it kids - I had fun making it.;)
Hip House Stylee all the way with this one... Classics all the way!
Sorry for the short mixes on this one as I could only find a bunch of radio edits, as in I was lucky if a track hit 3:30 in length plus I have upped their speed somewhat, so no time to get the mix down.
As per usual at the moment, performed on the DJay app for the iPad but with a little difference this time. Now-a-days I would be classed as a bedroom DJ and this time when my wife turned out the lights at 11:45 in bed I was left wondering what else I could do. So I made this mix literally lying in bed ;) Enjoy!
This is my second mix for globaledmradio.com, there's a mixture of deep house and also some great booty shaker numbers as well as some tunes which show more than little respect to the oldskool sound which was a special era for me. Hope you enjoy this mix I played it to a crowd on NYE and it was well recieved, please leave some feedback as its always interesting to hear what you think, and there's always the like, follow, favorites buttons too! Happy new year to you all
