MASSIVE OVERDOSE is the final installment of THE PYROCLASTIC FLOW TRILOGY which is a 4 and a half hour mix divided into 3 parts. Part 3 starts with the heavier, darker side of techno(where Part2 'THE JOURNEY' left off) before gradually becoming more uplifting & euphoric as the mix goes on,by the end of it you may wish to start the Pyroclastic Flow Trilogy Trip all over again! The trilogy was made in one session at a private party of ravers in the mid 90s. There were no rehersals, all the mixes are completely off the cuff and most of the records played were picked by the party goers who were exploring the record box and handing Dj Jazz(O.T.T.) whatever record they wanted to hear. The party was taped and years later 3 of the tapes have been found and brought together again to be converted to mp3. This trilogy is now being shared to show that all styles of electronic music can be blended together with the crowd hearing what they want to hear. It seems that there is a certain amount of snobbery among DJs who insist on only playing one style to please themselves. Electronic dance music has been broken into far too many groups,it seems that a new name is being given to a slightly different genre every few months. It used to be simply called either house, techno, jungle or garage but nowadays the list is endless. The trilogy shows that an atmosphere can be created by mixing all genres without the snobbery of not playing a record because its not the style you want to play, which is ridiculous as the main point of a DJ is to please the crowd not just themselves. I sound kind of bitter in my old age,but its cool i'm not really bitter,i'm just becoming a grumpy auld man lol. Tune in and enjoy the jazzy mixture of sounds, this is your Order To Trance.Peace.
THE JOURNEY is the second installment of THE PYROCLASTIC FLOW TRILOGY which is a 4 and a half hour mix divided into 3 parts. This is an amazing mixtape that I got in 1996 or 1997. It was a demo tape to the rather lame NE-Raves net party called Yahoo which was to be held at a club that was a church (not the Limelight) in upstate NY. More on that later.
People on the email list were to send in their tapes to this character Caz and we would listen to them at Linda Lee's house in PA (she was an elder member of the email list who is actually still around DJing in Philly bars). I wanted in on the listening party because I really wanted to badly DJ happyhardcore at this thing (I really sucked at the time). I really N-JOIed this Billy Desai tape but I don't think many others did. I also really liked this tape that Hugh Sharpe submitted as well. I snatched both tapes, then felt badly about it so I copied both of them and sent the originals back to Linda. I was transitioning between being a bratty teenager who steals things to being a 21 year old young adult with morals.
I don't know if Billy Desai actually played at the Yahoo party or not but I know that Hugh Sharpe did. That club was neat with all its Cyberlight moving mirror lights at various heights in the club and the stained glass windows were beautiful. Unfortunatly 80% of the talent had to play in this cramped basement with two trackspot moving mirror lights where the exaust for one of the lights was directly over the DJ equipment which I heard caused problems. It wasn't that great of a party but the club was beautiful.
As for this mix...... This is the most awesome 1996 techno mix I've ever heard in my life! Actually the two tracks I can ID are from 1992. I lost this tape for a very long time and only recently found it in a milk crate in the atic. I'm in awe that I actually found this tape and that I was able to rip it.
I really wish I knew what the tracks were on this. Theres one track that starts the second side of the mix (44 minutes into the set) is extremely awesome as it has the amen break from World Dominance "Compression". I'd really love to know what that record is as I would like to buy it. The whole mix is a beautiful journey that I already got many hours of enjoyment out of, and now you can too for the first time ever at 320kbps no less! If you can ID any tracks please let me know.
Tracklist:
01). ??????
02). Maurizio "Eleye" (M-1) 1992 (played at +8)
03). ?????
Last track). Dave Clarke Red 3? I have this one.
I made cover art for this wonderful mix. I thought an image of a circut board would be ideal. Then I thought an image of a circut board for a techno/rave specific object would be even better. I did a search for the image of an Intellabeam LCD board but could not find one.... so I took the cover off of mine and shot the photo. The last tune Dave Clarke Red 3 ended abruptly so I spliced in a bit of Red 3 from a mix of mine to keep it going for one more minute (so thats why you hear some DJ Phantasy inspired cuts at the end and thats why the mixtape is now 91 minutes long (duh! cassette tapes only go to 90 minutes youngster).
This hard/mimimal techno mix is a bit of a tribute to my one of my favorite internet DJs, Dylan Drazen (hence the title) who is a massivly great hard techno and house DJ. Hes also played at my friends house parties in the past which is extremely cool, however now as hes quite famous everywhere else but where hes from, Brooklyn. Hopefully that will some day change but in the mean time I thought I would have myself a go at mixing some hard techno for my own amusement. Some of these records I got for a dollar or two at Planet X before they closed up, others I got from my friend who got them from Dylan Drazen himself (unwanted promos apparently), The synewaves came from a crate of records I bought for $20.00, and others like the Rotation and Drumcodes I bought myself at full price because they were so damn good. Those Rotations also have quite a bit of a 1992 deep house vibe to them which I really like.
A few years after making this mix I got really into collecting hard/minimal techno for a year and a half. This first one right here is still one of the best as it represents the sort of techno I heard when I actually went to raves. I saw T-1000 three times as well. One time in Asbury Park when he had a broken arm and could only spin with one hand. Another time in a tiny nightclub in CT where I danced like crazy. Once again at the roller rink behind the Rockaway Mall in NJ. That last time was funny as I had just bought his Live at Sabatage CD at that very mall a few weeks prior. That roller rink is where I went to birthday parties as a kid, so it was wild seeing a godfather of Detroit Techno actually play there.
That roller rink is now a lumber yard. Timez Change. Not for the better. Techno was always about the future back then. Now that the future is all dubstep and cell phones. Take me back please, the future sucks ass!

This was my first one and certainly my best. I was really on point with my Casio SK-1 this time as I sampled the opening Twin Peaks cord from Moby's "Go". I never realized it till now how often that cord was used in techno and especially jungle as its usually heard pitched up. My bro picked this up for me at a local rummage sale. He remembers that this toy was used to write early UK 'Ardkore and thought it was neat. Its actually not all that good of a toy keyboard asside from its nostalgia factor. It does however sound extremely gritty which gives any sample that raw hardcore quality.
This mix was my first dive through some record boxes. I tried to pick out ones that were upbeat as most of his collection is dark and depressing techno.
Again, I don't know the tracklist, same deal as last time. I'm a teddy bear and I can't lift the 50lb moving lights off the record boxes. Theres certainly Joey Beltram (who my human brother just saw in person last Saturday, lucky bastard!), Jeff Mills, and Oscar Mullero in there. The mood in this one is more pleasing then the last one I uploaded. With the tracks that were boring and go nowhere I laid out some phat dubby riffs with the SK-1.
