CHECK THIS OUT!!! :D  I always wanted to make a dubstep drum&bass mix...the feelings that i get listening to these 2 music genre's are unexplainable...some of the tunes are old...some are new....so here it is...get crazy!!!

Nato a Bristol (Regno Unito), città natale dei Massive Attack, e per questo chiamato anche Bristol sound, il trip hop affonda le sue radici nella musica elettronica, nel dub, nella scena hip hop (rallentato ed incupito) e house inglese, e in certi elementi dal rock psichedelico, aggiungendovi alle volte anche spunti jazz, funk e soul.

I testi possono essere rappati sottovoce o cantati con toni caldi su delle basi oscure o oniriche, che appaiono e si disciolgono nel nulla. Le atmosfere sono quelle inquietanti delle grandi e decadenti città di fine anni novanta. Per alcuni gruppi come i Portishead la ricerca sonora è basata sul recupero di sonorità lo-fi e basi retro, spesso riciclando campioni di brani jazz e di film d'altri tempi, per altri vi è anche l'uso di strumenti quali archi, strumenti a fiato e similari.

I primi esponenti del movimento trip hop sono stati i Massive Attack, che insieme a Tricky e Portishead hanno creato la storia di questo genere. Notevole apporto successivamente è stato dato anche dal DJ Tim Simenon, conosciuto come Bomb the Bass.

Nel genere Trip Hop sono stati in seguito spesso associati anche gruppi non di Bristol che però in qualche modo ne furono influenzati in qualche misura o pur non rientrando nel genere ne avevano diverse similitudini, come i londinesi Archive che spaziano su numerosi generi, il primo disco elettronico dei Goldfrapp o addirittura, uscendo dal Regno Unito, il compositore australiano Rob Dougan e l'artista hip hop americano DJ Shadow. Molti gruppi inoltre hanno sperimentato influenze trip hop per un breve periodo, come l'islandese Björk in alcune canzoni o i norvegesi Ulver sul disco Perdition City.
