This is part 2 of my "roots drum & bass" series.  That is.... 2000+ era tracks that sound like 1992 - 1994.  This time this 2000+ era mix takes us to 1994, when UK 'Ardkore turned into "jungle" by focusing around amen breakbeats, reggae samples, and mild atmospherics.  Its a fun little mix and I thought I'd share FOR FREE!

Unfortunately one track in the mix "So Vain" by Breakage has very poor sound quality.  This record was purchased brand new by myself in 2003 and I only played it a few times before putting it on the shelf.  I only noticed how terribly hissy it was after using it in this mix as I had never used it in such a way before.  I heard it more recently in a Grooverider @ Fabric mix CD and I thought, "how cool this track is and I have it, I should dig it out and play it again".  He must have had an advanced copy or dubplate as it sounded pretty darn good.  I have the full release and this is how it really sounds.  Its not from ware and tare, this is how it was actually mastered by Simon @ The Exchange!  I tried to see if I could get better sound by putting more weight on the tone arm as this sometimes works, I also tried grooveglide.  Neither trick worked.  Instead I just wrote a review for it on Discogs which I'm sure someone will blast me for but you know what, too bad.  I expect sound quality like this from a poorly mastered 1992 bedroom production but not in a DNB record from 2003, this is just unacceptable.

Aside from that, I added some fairly recent 1994 flashback tracks that I did not have on vinyl.  I downloaded them from Hospital Record's website and burned them on a CDR so I could play them back.  They've been doing a good job with this sort of thing.  It's just a shame they've pretty much given up on pressing vinyl.  I bought some of their new "hipster" drum and bass a few years ago and they were mainly pressing albums with quiet volume levels.

My favorite track on here is Submerge "Everything Will Be" (Hospital).  This track is really interesting as it nails the whole 1994 LTJ Bukem vibe while adding in elements of modern dubstep/trap without sounding crap or out of place.  It just sounds really tight and beautiful to my ears.  Great job Submerge!
