So, it started like this. I’d been invited to work the WMC 2012 with a few good friends of mines. And was giving the task of organizing my fellow colleagues with the scheduling of their slots….”all who have done this before, know my pain..lol, yet I did it as successfully as it could be done at the time” When I was looking at the list of people who were gonna be gigging with us for these events? Amongst ALL the Other amazing people that were a part of our crew that year, one name excited the HELL Outta me for so many reasons. GROOVE ASSASSIN. If the idea of being able to be on the same gig as this brotha already wasn’t enough to be excited about? Meeting him in Person, that eventful day? SET IT INTO OVERDRIVE. It’s ALWAYS Amazing to actually link up with the talented people in this business who’s work you respect to put it all together in one’s mind. Only thing however about this meeting? It just didn’t go down how I expected it. Or how I would’ve wanted it to go as far as first meetings go. You see? During the scheduling debacle somehow, Brotha Nick Moss/Groove Assassin slot got all jumbled up on the schedule before I took over in organizing it. And no one told him. Nor was anyone really communicating with him during the madness that happens during these events. Trust me, it was bananas that night..lol. So you know you’ve got these Moments in life? Where you can make a Difference? Where you can actually fix a Solution to an issue @ that VERY Moment? But you must execute RIGHT then and there? I TOOK this Moment. Simply went up to the brotha and formally introduced myself. And explained the situation to this brotha as professionally and as calmly as I could. And what the Brotha said to me afterwards? Connected all the dots for “Me” as to WHO this Brotha Was as a Person and WHY his Music touched me all these years in “this most Positive way”….He said and I quote, (mind you with being a little irritated as anyone would be) “WHAT IS THIS? W.EGO.M.C. 2012, man It’s all good, thanks for coming to talk to me and sorting it out…I Know It’s Not Your Fault, but thanks for looking after us”….That right there did TWO things for me. 1. It put a check mark on my People skills that I’ve MASTERED in the business world, that some of these organizers, promoters, and D.J.’s don’t really UNDERSTAND HOW IMPORTANT it is to Have in this music business. A LITTLE Kindness goes A LONG FREAKING WAY!! Trust Me!! 2. It made ALL the Sense to me that I’d have to connect with this brother when I got back to England, and Show this brother in some way shape or form, How Much I appreciated him. Not ONLY as an Artist? But as a STAND UP GUY. Un Assuming. EGO Free, and simply and ULTRA Kind. Nick took his place in the booth, handed Pete Simpson a Mic….And THEY SHUT THE PLACE DOWN!!! They had Women and Men of the room, in the palm of their hands the entire set. Yea, That Night? It was UNMISTAKABLY Groove Assassin.
