I got this entire set of records from an old friend that I hadn't seen in ages. Apparently he was on a facebook page of Dave Hollands. Apparently Dave had posted something about wanting to get rid of his records for free because he was about to get married. From what I hear the "good" stuff was already pilliged through so these were the "scraps". I wouldn't know any better as I'm not a big time collector of this stuff and yet what is here sounds pretty good to me anyway and did I mention they were free? Most of this stuff is from 1996 which is right when I started going out regularly so it's very nostalgic.
I don't even remember much of Dave Hollands altough I remember seeing his name on practically every rave flyer I saw. I wasn't into techno or house much when I went out raving in the 90s. I hung out in the Jungle/DnB rooms and stayed clear of the main sound system which Dave Hollands would have certainly be playing on. I probably heard him play back then without even knowing it just because I was at so many of those parties.
I made this set much like I would do any other studio mix of music I'm not 100% familiar with. I listened to each record briefly, noted it's tone, noted its features, and put them on the floor with simmilar grouped records. Then I worked with the groups to make beginning, several middle, and end routines. I like how this came out. The flow is perfect. I feel like I'm really hearing Dave Hollands at a Phatto Productions party in an abandond Grand Union where the toilets overflowed which soaked the dancefloor illuminated with Golden Scan 3s.
