http://www.dj-koala.com DJ Koala was transformed by early house music in 1988 at the age of 17. First records were hip house and classic house trax, jack your body. Visiting Toronto for vinyl from Play De Record and Traxx, he would travel an hourfrom his home town, Guelph Ontario and spend hours and hundreds of dollars every month on vinyl. Vinyl was the drug of choice back then and addiction quickly followed. Late night radio on CFNY was Deadly Hedley - And Koala never missed a show. Even calling up Hedley one night for advice on how to become pro Dj. The advice given - play some gigs, make some gigs of your own.. just keep at it. At 19 he wouldvisit after hours clubs and later the many raves and small techno clubs that were sprouting up all over Toronto. Djing and promotingparties in Guelph (house quake, planet ecstasy) he quickly learned how to jam parties and please crowds. Djing changed a little from 3 and 4 hour sets to 1 hour sets at raves. Raves were big, and Dj Koala was a regular DJ at Destiny Fridays and the legendary monthly Parties put on by Destiny. As well as many after hours gigs. Techno and Trance were becoming in style and Koala had a special brand of tribal trance and tribal techno. But the real love was always house music, you name the style. tech-house,tribal-house,funky-house, classic-house,.etc.. Two turntables and a mixer. Record Labels started with Deko! in 93, studio. Doing Rave stores Liquid E, djing and graphic design. Self taught graphic designer - Many rave flyers and even magazines, He was lead designer at Communic8r and Peace! magazine in the mid 90's. In 97 Started Klublife Magazine. Torq puchased in 2008 - dj Koala was a vinyl snob, AND STILL IS. But the ease of use and reliability finally won him over to the digital side. Dj Koala has over5000 Vinyl memories purchased, given, found and traded that are being slowly transferred todiscogs.comunder the name Klubjunk. Klubjunk - producing, remixing name used by Dj Koala. Klublife was a full colour scene magazine that went Canada wide. Klublife and Dj Koala the extension of Dj Koala's graphic design daytime career and became a very important magazine for and about the house music scene. After selling Klublife in 2001,416 Design Lab was born. Fine designs like fine wine have been flowing out of his mind and office ever since.
