As a young lad fresh out of school with no idea of how the big wide world spins I was fortunate for my first job to be in a record shop in Sunderland called Volume records. It was the mid 80's so it was mainly the electronic 80's sound that was around with the main RnB singers like Luther and Alexander O'Neal leading the way for soul. I however opted for the electronic 80's sound but fell in love with Soul & RnB in the 90's but not before the early days of RAVE. Living in the coal mining area of the north east there was only one popular sound in the 90's and that was Hardcore...I could not stand the stuff and still can't to this day. So I was alone with my music and over time had a massive collection of soulful and mellow 90's tracks (The Beloved, Mantronix etc) so decided to invest in a couple of belt drive turntables. It took me years to get used to them and then the Pioneer CDJ 500's landed...I was reborn I loved them, my music collecting and fascination went into overdrive, I used to eat, sleep and drink house music, while all my mates were off to the hardcore raves I would look around and find nothing. Then "THE SHINDIG" opened it doors in 1992 and world renowned DJ's were on my door step and the best time of my life had begun. This created memories and I made friends for life all thanks to house music. While all this was going on I continued to polish my mixing and tune my style by playing in small bars and venues across the North of England which eventually led me to a regular slot on Pressure radio, so I would end by saying.... We are only on the earth for a short while so why not try and make you mark on it. I would like to think I have helped educate many people on the style and vibe of soulful deep house through my mixes and would like to keep that side of house going as long as possible. It feels and looks like it is one of the main genres of house that is really struggling for the past few years and it is mainly the mature heads that are loyal to this timeless art form of music; however I'm sure the longevity of the music we love will help keep it from fading totally and with the likes of VBW, Southport & Suncebeat championing it there are years of life left in it....and after all its ..MATURE MUSIC FOR MATURE EARS.

Alessandro Barbera aka Dj Lucifer aka SOULEXIS aka D.Lab, starts his passion for music as a child, when any radio, tape recorder, record player, and so on, was turned into a console for mixing. GroovePunk is a DJ based in West London and the host of 'All About House' - a weekly show live on GrooveLondon Radio every Saturday 4pm - 6pm GMT. After falling in love with House music and buying his first pair of turntables over ten years ago, GroovePunk has played a variety of venues in and around London as well as on a number of Internet radio stations. Growing up just outside London in the mid to late 90s, GroovePunk witnessed the transition from the acid house era of the late 80s/early 90s to the UK/US garage and trance-heavy early 00s. This provided a highly eclectic and open view of electronic music which can be heard through GroovePunks’ sound that often blends all sub-genres of house. As a bit of a tech junkie, GroovePunk has DJed with just about every type of DJ kit released – starting with turntables, moving to CDJs, then MP3 decks and most recently software and a variety of controllers. But it’s not about the kit, it’s about the music. GroovePunks’ shows aim to deliver the finest selection of fresh House promos and underground tracks. It’s all about House.

ATTENTION! Please be aware I no longer post mixes on house-mixes. If you have happened to have recently discovered me or listened to me before, you can find me still posting mixes on soundcloud & mixcloud. Been spinning since 88 and after a 10yr absence I returned a few years back to start mixing again. Before my "retirement", I played at a number of clubs and had residencies at the "infamous" Legends in Old Burlington St and at the Emporium in Soho. I currently mix for fun, but if the right opportunity presented itself Imight be interested in playing out again. My style of mixing is (I like to think) smooth, Itry to take the listener on a rhythmical adventure / journey. I particularly enjoy creating something between the mixes (when possible!) rather than simply going from deck to deck, so if you find yourself; a) loving the tunes, b) having an irresistable urge to dance and c) then realise you haven`t got a clue which tune you`re listening to, then I`m doing my job. My musical style usually falls into 3 categories; deep, soulful or nu disco but always funky. Would love to hear your comments on my mixes, don`t be shy. Click "Follow" and i will send you a notification (only) when i post a new mix. Don`t worry i do not notify as to what i am eating or watching on tv ala Facebook. FELLOW DJ`S PLEASE SEE BELOW; Please accept my apologies for not listening to everyone`s mixes, due to work and family commitments, the little free time I have is usually spent on seeking out new tunes or working on new mixes. I am aware I don`t listen to enough mixes and am trying to make more time for this. HOWEVER, when I do listen to a mix, I will provide an HONEST, THOUGHTFUL appraisal and whenrequested will offer constructive advice. Ido not"COPY & PASTE" feedback. I appreciate what DJ`s can put into a mix and the least I can do is take time to offer feedback befitting the quality of themix. The level of excellence of mixes from my fellow (undiscovered) dj`s never ceases to amaze or inspire me. Keep em comin.
