ComplexTheory
ComplexTheory

Beginning his dj career in 1999 at the age of 17, Complex Theory embarked on a journey he never intended to take. In 1999, his mother gave him his first set of turntables, as an early graduation gift, what she really gave him was the gift of expression. Complex Theory aka Jonathan Reeves began DJing in Columbia, SC at Cracker Jack's. At the time, it was a private club and was well known as the Electronic Music hot spot of its day. As he progressed through his career, he grew to be well liked by his peers, and other dj's. When asked, Complex Theory replied "I always wanted the crowd to know I was there for them, If they weren't moving then I wasn't doing my job. He also said, "I also try to be as approachable as possible, and take constructive criticism well. The one thing I learned early on was, if you dont listen to what people have to say, then you will fail miserably." Keeping this in mind, Jonathan began branching out to many other clubs in Columbia, Rock Hill, and Myrtle Beach, SC. In 2003, Jonathan grew tired of going to school, working full time, and DJing part time to stay afloat. He then enlisted into the US Army, quit DJing, sold his equipment, and immediately deployed to Iraq, for the first time. Jonathan said "I was so lost. Here I am barely legal to drink, and now I'm holding a rifle in the middle of Baghdad. I didn't know what to think, except just get home.". In 2005, while stationed in El Paso, TX a chance meeting led Jonathan back to music. This chance meeting would change his life forever. In 2005, while in a music forum, ran into former owner of Dust Traxx Chicago, Charles Paugh. Charles and Jonathan became close friends and encouraged Jonathan to begin DJing again with a mutual friend. After a 2 year break, Jonathan was once again drawn back into DJing. He began playing several different clubs in El Paso, TX. He played anywhere and everywhere he could. In 2006, Jonathan deployed once again to Iraq and never touched the decks again. That is, until 2011. Now he's back. After a lengthy battle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from his 2 deployments, Jonathan was encouraged to seek out a form of expression, and something that he loved. Jonathan immediately remembered how he felt behind the 1200's and the unimaginable feeling of making crowds move. Jonathan then vowed to begin DJing again as soon as he could. Since beginning in June 2011, Jonathan has played at Salsatheque in Greenville, SC. The crowds have been drawn to his old school UK Garage, Funky Electro, and Fidget styles. He drops only what he knows his crowd will love and yearns to keep the crowd interacting with each other and him throughout. Corey Davis, a greenville native, said "I always look forward to hearing him play and see his electricity behind the decks. If you've never seen him play, you truly don't know the feeling and emotion he puts into his set!" Jonathan currently resides in Anderson, SC as a US Army Recruiter and part time DJ.

a pair of 1210's, a pair of pioneer cdj 800 mk 2's and a djm 600 Ever since ;I ;was 12 ;I ;always had a passion for dance music especially house music, ;in particular funky house, people around at the time who got me into it were the likes of the legendary ;Jeremy ;Healy, ;Alistair Whitehead, Danny Rampling, Graeme Park ;etc.... ; Ever since then ;I ;wanted to give dj'ing a go, 2 years later ;I ;got my first pair of turntables and taught myself to mix, which ;wasn't ;easy!! It pretty much started out as hobby, playing to friends in my garage, ;doing ;private parties, small functions ;etc.... ; It has continued to be a hobby of mine up until about a year ago, I ;joined an internet radio station ;http://funkymonkey.fm/ ;where ;I ;have listeners /Other ;DJ's ;from across the globe tuning in for my shows, they praised me on my tune selection and ability which gave me the confidence to take my hobby to the next level. Since starting my shows i have discovered electro/fidget house, which i have made my speciality these days, i fell in love the wobbly basslines!! ; ; In the short time I have played out so far i have played at 1 of the north east's leading trance events (eliminate), where i supported Trance masters, Matt Hardwick & John Askew along with rising star Claudia Cazacu, at another north east trance event ;I ;supported Chris Metcalfe & Akira Kayosa. I have also played alongside some of the north west's most talented and up and coming stars including, Steve RH, Daz-P, A.I, DJ Red-I, Lady Hani, Neil Shine, DJ Laraz, Bawn Trubble & Tim Frisco (AATW Records), But the guys im most ;honoured to have played alongside is fidget house ;DJ's/producers Filthy Rehab. ; I have also dabbled in production with a friend of mine which to my surprise went down really well, im still an ;amateur ;at the production side, but aim to keep at it and learn along the way. As you can tell i do like a wide range of dance music, My main Style is filthy electro/fidget house, but i do play funky house And the odd bit of trance every now and again! To get an idea of what u can expect to hear from me my favourite artists include, Will Bailey, Calvertron, Hostage, Fidget Monsters, Down'n'Out, Uber DJ's, Filthy Rehab, Wonk, The list goes on... !!! Also u can catch me every ;Thursday ;and ;Sunday ;teatime 6-8 only on ;http://funkymonkey.fm/ ; ;
