Thank you, Gregory Coleman.

I imagine that not very many people are familiar with this name. If I mention that he was the drummer for The Winstons, then some ears will prick up. The Winstons were a funk and soul group that released the single ‘Color Him Father’ in 1969. On the B-side of this single was the instrumental ‘Amen, Brother’, a title that will prick up some more ears, as it contained a six second drum solo that was sampled and titled the Amen Break. This break has resounded throughout music, jungle and drum and bass particularly, and they would not sound the way they do without the Amen Break. It’s for this reason that I would like to thank Mr. Coleman for his historic contribution to music. He never received any money from any of the thousands of records that contained his break and it seems that he was experiencing homelessness when he passed in 2006.

I dedicate this mix to his memory.
