Jazz is a subgenre of fusion that incorporates jazz music with rap music, developed between the late eighties and early nineties. It usually has lyrics with politically conscious content and an Afrocentric theme. This style is an attempt to merge the Afro-American music of the past with a new dominant form in the present, paying tribute and reinvigorating the previous one while expanding the horizons of the latter. Musically, it uses typical rhythms of hip hop and not jazz, on which phrases and jazz instrumentation are built, including trumpet, double bass or saxophone.
