Welcome to an extended UK Bank Holiday edition, also our 12th B'day here at Soul Legends Radio, so we are doing a one-night takeover of #wedigdeeper to cast our minds back and pay tribute to one of the shows original inspirations THE BLUE ROOM as hosted by Chris Coco & Rob Da Bank in the mid-2000s. An excellent post-watershed bolthole, marking a time when the emphasis was moving away from the main rooms and into the smaller more niche tents around the back. This all-night mix is an effort to imagine what a BR reunion might look and sound like in the modern era. Taking the inspiration of then and fusing it with the vibes of now to try and recreate their own brand of escapism for lovers of chilled and eclectic music from the world over. I'm not a fan of the BBC at all, in the main they are shameful, however on the occasion that they commissioned the Blue Room, they did a wonderful thing and this show is a homage to the pair of chaps that made that a memorable point in time and indeed an inspiration that I can recall even now :-) Plenty of wrong speeding in here, just crafting from the vibes alone and my fave type of totally freestyle and utterly eclectic set construction! >>> Thanks so much for listening, do hope you find something to enjoy in here?
Normal M.O for undertaking a tribute-type set is to first meticulously scour every resource you can muster around the artist, band, label or show etc. Then armed with a sound palate of a certain constitution, start to try to piece together a set in the style of the spotlighted act, label or event. However, for me, a much more fun if significantly challenging task is to just try and recreate the vibes and feelings, (without solely relying on previous tracks used etc.) Simply; get to that nostalgic vision as fast as you are able and more importantly hold the suspension of disbelief long enough that the mind can be cast back to similar moods & feelings, and in this instance, that is what I have attempted here. A conceptual reimagining if you will and hopefully something suitably respectful to the original as it was a brilliant show of the era, I LOVED it & I'd hate to do it a disservice. Only you can be the judge of that and thus invite you to kick back, have a listen and see what you think for yourself?
