Think Shoreditch Squat Party circa '84, with the cast of the Cure, The Creatures & The Banshees in tow..........The Glove's Blue Sunshine album and its lead single "Like an Animal" were both released in August 1983, followed by the Siouxsie and The Banshees' single "Dear Prudence" (a cover of the Beatles' song) in September, all on the Banshees' own label Wonderland Records. According to the Banshees' authorised biography, "Dear Prudence" had been recorded at Robert Smith's insistence to document his time with the group, and it became their biggest hit, reaching number 3 on the UK Singles Chart.
Shortly before the group's scheduled Royal Albert Hall concerts in September and October 1983, Siouxsie and the Banshees were also invited to participate in an episode of Channel 4's television series "Play at Home", which they agreed to in order to take advantage of having the upcoming concerts filmed. Robert had previously suggested to Severin that "the Banshees shouldn't be doing tours, they should be doing something really ambitious like The Wizard of Oz on stage", and Severin decided to adapt this idea for the "Play at Home" episode, substituting The Wizard of Oz concept with Alice in Wonderland to tie the theme with the Banshees' Wonderland recording label. The result was a 45-minute television programme featuring performances from Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Glove and The Creatures, in which all four members of the Banshees appeared in a recreation of the Mad Hatter's Tea Party dressed as Alice, while each individual member scripted their own solo character performance and monologue. Musical interludes included The Glove performing "A Blues in Drag", The Creatures playing "Weathercade" and the whole band performing "Circle". The programme (which didn't air on television until the following year) concluded with live footage of Siouxsie and the Banshees playing "Voodoo Dolly" and "Helter Skelter" live at the Royal Albert Hall.

We’ve all been supping Snakebites & Black, I have some Tequila, a bottle of both Thunderbird Red & Blue in a rucksack, a shoebox filled of old C90 cassettes and been tasked with synchronising the musical proceedings via 2 vintage TEAC tape decks, We’ve found A Valve Amp, A Ropey old Realistic Mixer and 4 x Yamaha Valve Speakers. How do you entertain Steve Severin, Siouxsie, Budgie & The Cure at a post Mad Hatters tea party TV Performance???
