Analog Cyberpunk Mix Set.
The late 1970s and early 1980s saw an explosion of musical creativity across the world, and from the melting pot of old and new technologies and attitudes 'Analog CyberPunk' was born. The genre might be best described as underground electronic post-punk new wave and was played in new wave dance clubs and on college radio. Or if it were packaged on discs, it would have the subtitle "U.F.O.s, Giant Robots And Bored East Germans". For the most part it is asexual dance music and happily lived under its ACP banner until being 'rediscovered' and packaged under names like Synthpunk and Minimal Wave.
Fast forward to the Digital Age, and to preserve the genre from complete oblivion the Analog CyberPunk Project was created (circa 2014). The 'single person' project considered over 3000 tracks to be added to the collection, eventually settling on 158 tunes that would be defined as Analog CyberPunk.
Another decade later, and from those 158 I have selected 23 for this little project. I'm not calling them the 'best of' or 'cream', just a selection which I enjoyed playing, and I'll be going back again for more as I barely scratched the surface. I have added any visual markers I could find in reference to the bands or people involved. With that being over 40 years ago things are a little limited for videos, so in some cases I may have used the video of another track from the band or just a collage of their images if that was the only thing available.
If you are interested in the sound or want to know more about what you'll hear over the next 60 minutes, then I would recommend you high tail it down to the Internet Archive. There you can listen to, and even download, the entire Analog CyberPunk collection. For your ease the tracks have been split into 10 different albums, which range from "that's pretty cool" to "oh my God" and a few "what the hells".
I have a feeling we're going to see (hear) a revival in this kind of genre. Computer orientated music yes, but not confined to its little slot, and still shouting out. Oi the Robot!
