WebbyBoy - Plaid
To me, Plaid are one of British Electronica's best kept secrets, and I've always felt they should be as much a household name as your Orbitals, Chemical Brothers or Aphex Twins. Since their debut in 1991 they have been consistently putting new music out there, successfully collaborating with some of the biggest in the music and film industry, and still putting the hours in doing it live. This is no surprise considering they are forged from that primordial pool of greatness that was the later 90's and very early 2000's, and being the longest standing act on Warp Records label you can be assured they are doing the business properly.
One of the things I love about Plaid is their desire for the new and want to experiment. Piece to piece, you don't know what the next one is going to bring - but you do know it won't be the 'same', and while some like their groups and music to stay in their own lane I'm completely the opposite. I want to be surprised, to think 'I know where this is going' and be proved wrong, and Plaid ticks all those boxes.
For this set I've taken a sweeping view across their 11 Album, 8 EP, and 7 or so Compilations back catalogue, and tried to bring in the same variety as they do while still keeping to the Plaid sound. Regarding the video selection, Plaid have endorsed a number of really cracking videos over the years, and more recently some AI based ones - unfortunately none of these videos relate to any of the tracks I've used, and so there's been a lot of repurposing work going on. All of the alternative videos were sourced from YouTube, and their location added to the Video List below for reference.
As always, I am not trying to be credited for anyone's work, be it audio or video. These mixes are solely a tribute to the artists, or otherwise to be used as promotion of the artists to potential listeners who have yet to be introduced or have forgotten the enjoyment received from them.
Lastly, I'd like to draw your attention to a couple of points in the set. 1st is the video at 08.35, which is actually for Itsu. This track is nearly 20 years old now and is still brilliant. 2nd is War Dialer at 50.42. I just love this track, but I won't spoil it for you. Let me know what you think at the end. I read and respond to all your comments and questions.
