RETRO MIX VOLUME ONE: DEEPER

Mixed by Denise aka DJ D

Recorded January 2002

Recorded live with vinyl on 2 Technics 1200s

The idea of the Retro Mixes was that they would feature older tracks that never quite made it to the recording booth. There are always so many records that get passed by when a compilation is made that shouldn't! The Retro Mix series would be dedicated to recording these tracks that kick ass but are no longer new releases.

As it turned out, there never was a Retro Mix Volume Two, as mix tapes went out of style faster than MC Hammer's pants. At the time this project was made, Deeper was described as "a break from the norm, featuring mellower, groovier and funkier hard house tracks recorded at a slower BPM." It turns out that this mix tape was a perfect bridge between my UK hard house sound and funky house sound.

The question remains, however: Can there ever be a Volume 2? The idea hasn't been totally discarded, but if there should ever be a Retro Mix Volume Two, it will most likely be an MP3 mix for your reminiscing pleasure.

Remember that song with that guy talking about "They Know What Is What, But They Don't Know What Is What... They Just Strut... What The Fuck...?" Well it's called Star69 and it's the last song on this compilation. Some of you might be interested in that.
