ABBA IN THE REMIX - THE STORY SO FAR
LAST YEAR - FIRST REMIX
So last year, in 2024, I decided to remix some ABBA songs. The first song I remixed was ABBA’s song ”Lay All Your Love On Me” and the song was taken from the 1979 album “Super Trouper”. The ‘Extended Classic Clubmix’ (RT. 9.28) sounds as if it actually IS the 12” Version that was never released back in 1980! SECOND REMIX
The second song of ABBA that I decided to produce a remix of was ”Does Your Mother Know”. Unfortunately, there never was a 12 Inch Version released of this fabulous song when the song came out. But with my ’Classic Extended Clubmix’ (RT. 8.38) that also sounds as if it actually IS the 12” Version that never was released back in 1979, there is one now! THIRD REMIX
Then I had to decide on the third ABBA song I was going to produce a remix of. I had received some requests if I could perhaps produce a remix of the song ”The Winner Takes It All” but to be honest, it’s NOT a song one immediately thinks of when thinking about an ABBA song to remix .. at least, it’s not the first song I would think of.
But then I had an idea. What if I would do something that no-one would EVER expect? What if I decided to do ‘an AI experiment’..? What if I could do…………… 🤔 hmmmmm….
YES!! That’s it! 😊
The idea popped in my head but was it doable? As I am not musically schooled and can’t play any instruments, not even a keyboard, I can’t add new music parts to a remix I produce. But, as my remix productions aren’t for commercial releases, I can use parts I can find (‘finders keepers’ I believe they say 😉 hahaha).
So the search began and after a while I found the exact part I needed for my remix production of ”The Winner Takes It All” 😇
START OF THIRD REMIX
So I started the remix production of ”The Winner Takes It All” which was going to be quite a long process, as my way of producing remixes in general is rather quite unconventional 🫣
And now it’s finished and it is magnificent, even if I do say so myself..! 😇
WHAT ABOUT AI?
As mentioned before, it’s the first time I experimented with AI in a remix production. Now you’re probably wondering what that experiment is. Well, let me tell you, it has to do with the extra performing artist on the remix of ”The Winner Takes It All” named ‘Blake’. And ‘Blake’ in a way is AI ..!! 😃
Now you’re maybe thinking ”what does he mean by saying ‘Blake’ is AI?”.
Well, let me tell you. ‘Blake’ is the voice of Agnetha Fältskog BUT ‘transformed’ into a male version! So you’ll be hearing Agnetha on lead vocals and ‘Blake’ on lead vocals in a duet, but both ARE Agnetha’s voice you’ll be hearing in the duet! The male voice of ‘Blake’ being her voice, but ‘transformed’ into a male-version of her voice, using AI (that’s the experiment with AI that I was talking about).
FUTURE REMIX PROJECTS
It really was super fantastic working on this remix production and I may be using AI to ‘transform’ an artist’s voice again in the future at some point, if doing a duet remix production of a song that actually is not a duet in its original version. The result is amazing and a unique concept, of which I’m sure more will start doing, after hearing this fantastic remix production .. just remember where you heard it first! 😉😇
