WAITING TO BE DISCOVERED ! MY STORY - I was a fixture on NYC, Miami and Fire Island dance floors. And for 35 years, I was the ONE who paid attention to every set I attended. Rarely did I miss a party, Attending over 1500 sets. Hearing it all Good Bad Ugly and PERFECT...combined with a really fine EAR for the mix, I was frequently asked to pass judgment on the sets. Truly I had the presence and clout to "deconstruct" the work of other DJ's and I was VERY good at my position. Now I stand behind the decks and I have the power to rip myself to shreds and the power to pat myself on the back.....and say FINE SET JAY! MY OBSERVATIONS - I believe there is an "Axiom of the Perfect Set". The 3 things ALL fine sets have in common regardless of genre or year produced. If we do our best to hit all 3 points, to the best of our ability, we will stay in the game longer, be happier AND produce better quality sets...GUARANTEED! Stay Relevant - Always be "on the curve/'. We aren't expected to be ahead of it..then we would be composers But as Djs, its is our prime directive to keep things fresh and bring the music to our listeners. STAY ON THE CURVE. The alternative is harsh. To fall behind 5 years and complain "... there isn't any good music!" Finding relevant and new tracks is only 1/2 the work when selecting tracks.I will then listen to 10 mixes of that NEW track. (though in 4 beats you will know) the best suited for YOUR sound If your set is FRESH, "ON THE CURVE".& sounds like Y O U ...then you are assured the extra bonus points will be awarded. THE STANDARD - I take this seriously and I have a very high standard what a FINE set will sound like. I do my best to meet these standards, I do take my own advice.....at times! Been a fan of dance music since the early 90's then as most in the 2000's i took the plunge into Djing. My style is long progressive mixes although i do mix most genres i try not to follow the scene as i find things just get muddied with inaccurate descriptions of genres but that said there is a lot of great music out there, so here is a snapshot of my favourite styles....Hope You enjoy
