Les Rhoda is a sonic journeyman who currently comes in several flavors: 1) DJ Les - known to rock house parties, clubs and festivals around Maine with genre-bending sets that meld dubstep, glitch-hop, electro-funk, mashups, fidget/bassline/electro-house and psytrance into a spontaneous blend that is more often determined by the vibe of the room than a playlist. He has also provided opening, setbreak, and after-party beats for many acts including the New Deal, EOTO, Orchard Lounge and Labseven. 2) Sax Guy - Les has spent the last 12 + years playing sax in dozens of bands throughout Maine...jazz, funk, and reggae to jamrock and livetronica. He is self-taught, often augmenting his simplistic sound with an array of delay pedals or, more recently, with a foot controller and laptop. He is currently working with Orono bands Mudseason and Bootiddy, has shared the stage with national acts including the Disco Biscuits and Sugar Hill Gang, and sat in on sax with the likes of Galactic, Lovewhip, and DJ Logic's Full-Funk Orchestra. 3) Alien Journalism - A combination of the above, using homespun and sampled loops, bleeps, and wobbles (some made in the lab an some on the spot) mixed with a schizoid saxophone and a bucketful of audio and video clips that may or may not have a message. Inspired primarily by the culture-jamming collage masters and remix godfathers like Negativland, John Oswald, the ECC, Cassetteboy, and Girl Talk.

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 I am known for one of the most unique pioneers of Soul and Gospel House music. My passion for music started when I was Break Dancing and needed “custom” beats for My shows. The Beats led to mixes. I wanted to stay away from mainstream, so I was always looking for ways to be different. So what did I do? Well back in the 80’s I decided to hit the Goth crowd. I mixed and remixed New Wave, Euro Beat, Metal and Dark music. At the time no one was mixing this, so I became quite popular. After DJing 100’s of house parties, high school dances, and Special one time events for huge stadium warehouse parties. I got a residency at a small club in the Haight Ashbury district spinning; which eventually lead me to Funk and Soul. Moving along through my college years I was fine tuning my Funk and Soul sessions, I come across Deep Funky House… then Jazz, and then Gospel, I am sure you get the story now. Fast forward to my early 20’s (5 years later from the record #1) I have a Mobile Music company that I have opened; Recruiting the best DJ’s I can find and we were able to simultaneously do 10 different DJ events on the same day all over California. I call this the “Mobile Disc Jockey” era. While my company was running I was working at many clubs throughout San Francisco and The Bay Area. I have also supplied 10’s of stores and Gym’s with my looped mix tapes. Then I got a call; while I was working at Club DV8 in downtown SF. A fellow from Tokyo wanted me to DJ at his club for the first few months to get things rolling. I then flew to Japan for several months meeting celebrities, radio work, and television. I then was invited to a Large DJ event. It was back then called the World DJ contest. A one time event the some rich fellows came up with. I won that even and was then flown to Guam, and to Different parts of Asia, ending up back in Japan a year later. With my Fathers influences and help I am now the proud owner of over 300 thousand titles from all over the world. 23 years at the decks endorse the trajectory and experience of this disc-jockey and producer from Sevilla, Spain. Raúl Navarrete aka DeeJayKul. Armed with a great knowledge and passion for black music in all its forms from a very early age (Soul, Jazz, Funk, House, Electro, Hip Hop), he has been resident DJ in the most emblematic clubs in Sevilla: Bestiario, Catedral, BuBus. His purpose as a DJ has always been to show the public all that unknown dance music, staying away from orthodox sounds.His career begins in 1997, remixing a track for Sindicato del Crimen. Thanks to this remix he releases “Mondofonk” with Boozo Records, legendary Spanish label belonging to DJ Tony Rox. From that moment on, his music is included in several compilations, such as TARIFA GROOVE SESSIONS, CAFÉ SOLAIRE, he begins to produce local new soul artists such as Diargi, Nalaya, and , composes the music for the SONY Spain advertising campaign, combining all this with live performances in festivals such as SONAR 99 and ESPARRAGO 2000. His latest release, BACK TO BASICS, released with Andy Compton’s PENG RECORDS in the UK is a symbiosis of all this musical restlessness accumulated over the years. It combines the essence of electronica and 80’s funk with the new conceptions of New Jazz, House, and Hip Hop.
