The D'Kota Brothers are a British electronic DJ duo comprising Nick Ellis and Dave Hunt. Originating in Derby, UK, they were known for bringing House Music to local bars in the area. After a break from the music scene due to other commitments, The boys hooked up and talked about getting back out there once again to deliver their unique brand of House, Tech House and Techno. The D'Kota Brothers have featured with many sound systems and promoted events as well as running their own events. Synth City, Big Room Drama, Intensity, House Division, Arkitek, House Proud and Neon are just a few. It was an honor to be invited to the world famous Ministry of Sound to play for Synth City. I got into electronic music right after High School. (Honestly truth be told I have always been into it when you include groups like NIN and Gravity Kills, to name a few, but I didn't find dance music until post High School)... I went to my first club in 1999, and saw DJ Monk (co-founder of the group Rabbit in the Moon). And he was just too wicked, mixing records, scratching, adding effects, I watched him and watched him, he never stopped moving, he was always doing something tweaking this, adding that. It was an awesome show to watch and hear. I heard and saw all this and I was hooked. I knew I wanted to spin right away, and I had dreams as high as the sky, imagining seeing the world, and meeting new people, and playing in venues in places I never even knew existed. That never happened, but I'm okay with that, I played some open decks and did a few house parties, but mostly I just did what I did, because I enjoyed doing it. When someone asks me for a hero Monk is still the first name that pops into my mind, he introduced me to one of my biggest passions, all thanks to one night all those years ago. I went out bought a Numark all in one package, not long after I had been consumed by the scene and used it awhile until I realized what crap I had, belt drive tables and mixer with a crossfader that jumped in and out as I was mixing. I eventually replaced all that with the setup I currently have which is a pair of Stanton STR8-100's and a Denon DN-X800, later on; I also purchased a Denon DN-F2600 dual disc CD player, which have recently been replaced with a pair of Stanton c.314's. I use Ortofon Concorde Elektro needles and Denon HD-1000 headphones, and I couldn't be more pleased with my setup. I bought the STR8-100's when they very first came out, and the reason I did was because I had become very attached to the key correction function of the CD player, and I thought it would be awesome to have it on my tables too. Unfortunately the key correction on the model I got never really worked all that well, it creates this funny reverb effect. It is so overpowering it is difficult to tell which beat was the real one, and it makes it hard to mix, so I never use it. However, in my opinion the motors are at very least very comparable to 1200's, so I have never really had the desire to replace them. Except for maybe with one of the new model 150's, only because I hear they finally got the key correction to function properly, the 150’s are supposed to have even more torque, but like I said before, the torque on mine is fine. I don’t scratch so super high torque tables are not a necessity for me, so I will run with my 100’s until they die. All of that is really moot anyway, while I still have my tables and can still use them, I rarely do. Most of the time I use my digital setup, which consists of a Denon MC6000, a pair of Kontrol F1s, Maschine, a Kaoss Pad Quad, and Traktor. I enjoy a very wide range of music, and if you listen to my sets, you'll rarely hear me play an entire set of single genre, most of the time it is three or four different genres. And what I enjoy most with the digital setup, is that I have so much more music at my disposal, and it is a lot more accessible that trying to thumb through a thousand records. My style of mixing has evolved a great deal since switching to digital as well, so much so that I don't enjoy traditional mixing as much anymore either, I use a lot of cue points and loops in my mixes, and you can't do that with vinyl. I suppose you could with Traktor Scratch and set of Dicers, but I don't really see the point considering that that I don’t scratch, nor do I have any real desire to. It doesn't really fit what I do.Life moves quickly, and life had more responsibilities than my teenage dreams allowed for, and I wound up settling down. I got married and had a couple of kids and mixing kind of took a backseat for a few years... …Fast forward to a few years ago, I got my hands on an iPod and started jamming out to my tunes again, because it was all so easily accessible, which in turn made want to mix again, but I still rarely found the time to do it. Until I got my hands on a copy of Virtual DJ, and I got all pumped up. I started recording mixes. I was rejuvenated all over again. Not that I really have aspirations for a worldwide tour anymore, but simple act of blending one track into another was as exciting as it was the first time I did it, and I was having a lot of fun doing it. So, I kept at it, and made some new like minded friends. I got picked up on Gremlin Radio a few months after I started mixing again, and I have been there ever since. I love it; we have a very cool group of people contributing to the station. I've been there since 2011, and don't plan on going anywhere. I was recently made an administrator for the station as well, my main role is to set up their streams when they join the station, but I also look for new DJs to join our ranks amongst other things as well. So if you interested send me a PM, or find me on Facebook or something, just find a way to get me your demo. I'm always scouting for new talent to join our collaborative. Currently we have around 40 DJ’s in the fold, but we are looking to have live DJs 24/7. Anyhow, I can ramble on and on, but in the end we are all here for the same reason, we love music... Take a listen to my sets, and let me know what you think, good or bad. All comments will be greatly appreciated.. Thanks for stopping by and checking me out and I hope you enjoy what you hear... >>>   Peace.Love.Unity.Respect   <<<

Been into dance music since it began really since the late 80's and it come along at just the right time really just as i was becoming a teenager.Had the slight Breakdance/Early electro phase just before that, then listened to the Chicago house,Detroit house and the British house that was around etc, then seemed to naturally progress into listening to Acid house and the bleepy tunes and techno of 89/90 and then theHardcore/Breakbeat/Rave sound that started not long after that.Used to listen to alot of radio (and have quite an intrest in radio, but thats a different matter) and used to listen to Kiss FM (london) back then, and it was a pirate station at the time, and listened to colin favor and colin dale, and steve jacksons house show and Jules etc,and used to record there shows sometimes, on cassettes i still have actually come to think of it.Got all my old tapes together to have a clean up once and iv ended up with 3 carrier bags full of them.Used to drive up the north downs just a few miles away in friends cars looking down above the countryside in kent trying to recieve london pirate stations like FantasyFM. Was always into gettin mixtapes and recording stuff and radio shows. I always liked editing things,tape/CD/even video at times.I didnt know it back then but thinking about it now whenever anyone of my friends was around my house when i was young i was always putting music on or messing around in one form or another in the background putting on tapes or cd's or records or recording something. I wasnt hardly ever the sort of person to put an album on and play the whole thing through like someone normally would.Id maybe play one track, then take it out and play something else, but then maybe go back to the first album again. So that there really should of been a sign that i had a little bit of a dj inside me.lol.Just always liked playing music to people. From liking the early 90s Hardcore music i kept on following and being influenced by the Djs on that scene so naturally fell into drum and bass cos thats the path alot of them djs went in,but around 1995/1996 i wanted a change and wasnt liking the bouncy cheese that hardcore had become.I was abit lost so went back to just all forms of house music.Dabbled in most genres, and listened to trance if i wanted something abit harder. So now im into alot of house styles. And im liking disco influences in dance music aswell, and its even made me appreciate actual disco music in itself, cos i was to young when disco was first around.Used to be very much into roller discos and skating as a kid, from about 8 to 16yrs old and was pretty good at it and loved it,i dont think i hardly ever missed goin to one, which gives images of disco boogie woogie being played, lol but it was just the national pop chart music. We'd all love a time machine but we cant have one..but thats another great thing about music, its the only time machine we have.A song can instantly take you back to a place and time,or to a fond memory and even briefly give you the exact feeling you had when you was back in that time and just for a few fleeting moments you was back in the past again. But then i have a good memory about most things, and can usually hear a song and be abit geeky and instantly know which year it came out and associate some sort of memory with it and how old i was at the time. Became intrested in the dj aspect and mixing music and i certainly felt the buzz of what doing that can create and make you feel inside. You used to listen to those mix tapes/shows and when 2 tunes hit in the right place & key it is almost bloody magical and sends your biorhythms through the roof.lol. but its always only been a hobby. And so from then and until now iv always been into house and electronic music in general.I own Technics, used VDJand recently Traktor to mix,got my hands on some music producing software and dabbled with that.
