I recently found some 1997 era techstep drum and bass records at a local antique shop for 2 dollars each.  I was never really into this style as it bored me at the time but finding some big name techstep records for 2 bucks a piece was the right price and I was quite pleased with my finds.  I dug out the techstep records I bought at the time and mixed them with these new finds.  My favorite out of this lot is DJ Phantasy "The Pope's Dope".  It's not really all that dark, it has an uplifting vibe for a techstep track.  Another gem is Substance "Homeboyz" which is actually a hardstep track that I heard on an Ian "Timestretch" Melven mixtape which got a lot of play in my car back in 1996.

As for the title:  I made a mixtape back in 1999 out of clearance techstep records that Planet X Records in New Jersey were selling cheap as the store was going out of business.  I probably should have grabbed more but I did get a few.  I called the tape "Drum and Bass 4 Baby" as it was a meme at the time the "4 Baby" thing... maybe it was a meme in my own mind.  At any rate my friend in Brooklyn loved it.  I lost the original tape till I found it in his car and asked for it back as I wanted to remake it.  I've still yet to do this as it's going to be a chore to figure out what these tracks were called.  I still have the records, but because the tracks are so forgettable it will be a task.

Till that time, there is Drum and Bass 4 Baby vol.2.  Funny thing now is that friend now has 3 real babies!  Maybe he can play them this music which is certainly not suitable for babies because its so depressing but he will likely play it to them!

PS:  The last track (Dylan "Corkscrew") is also the last track that Raymond "Grooverider" Bingham played at an Ultraworld event at the DC Armory's basement in Washington DC, 1999.  I did not like this track nor this music in 1999.  It was unlikely but by the end of 1999 I could see this music getting more interesting or perhaps my ears were getting older and I started to like it.  Somehow I ended up with this record in my collection, I only later realized it was the tune that I heard Grooverider play.  The sound quality is actually pretty bad on this record as well, it sounds very cold and digital.  There is no warmth to the amen at all.  The working title for this was originally Dylan "Killer"

@turbovamp, the reply to comments do not work on this site. To answer your question, I would like to eventually visit the UK but other then visiting Peter Hooks new nightclub or visiting the site of the old Stern's nightclub, I wouldn't know what to do there on a vacation.
