You know...

It's been a long time since I did a set like this.  The last I think was the one called "Logans Run".

This set is very loosely based on the set Mr. Kleen played at Nasa Rewind in 2004.  Nasa was the NYC rave party series that ran from 1992 to 1993.  It was put on by Scott Osmond and featured primarily my kind of music, UK 'Ardkore however it also featured progressive house that was popular at the time.  Mr. Osmond was able to book interesting acts at these events like Altern-8, 808 State, and the elusive Moses on Acid.  These parties were mainly featured at the club called "The Shelter" which used to be a stable for horses before the era of cars.  Unfortunately, by the time I could go out to these parties it was 1994 and the NASA era was long over.  Not only that but no one was playing the music that drew me into all of this in the first place.  I was able to go to Mr. Osmond's "Purple" party at the Roxy skating rink but aside from hearing Josh Wink's "I am ready" loud with Clay Paky Astro-Spider lights, and the High End Systems Intellabeams hitting the butterfly shaped scrims, it wasn't memorable but I digress.

Fast forward to 2004, I heard there was going to be a NASA Rewind party.  A flashback party.  I've been to many "flashback" party events prior to this and aside from one at the Capital Ballroom in Washington DC, they weren't great.  The DJs on the line up were Mr. Kleen, Moby, Scott Henry, Superstar DJ Dimitry, Odi, Soul Slinger, and some others.  I had heard Scott Henry play an "old school" set at the Capital Ballroom and aside from that one really dark Liquid is Liquid track, it was anthem bashing.  The other cool thing about Nasa Rewind is that it would be at The Shelter club just before it would be gutted and turned into apartments so that was a thing.

Turns out Nasa Rewind would be not only a good flashback style event, but the _Best_ event I would ever go to, probably in my life.  Scott Henry didn't anthem bash, he played proper weird crate digging stuff with some anthems.  Due to that set I would no longer hate Yolk "Bish Bosh".  Unfortuantly I got there late because a friend wanted to speak with the fellow at Sonic Groove for a long while so I missed the first two sets, Mr. Kleen and Moby.  I later heard through mono MP3 files that I purchased from Scott Osmond the Mr. Kleen set and Moby set.  I didn't miss much with Moby but the Mr. Kleen set was too good of a set to be an opener, that was some peak time stuff with really good flow.  I was particularly impressed with Rozzo "Into your heart (into your space)".  It was very simple yet very effective.  It would take me years to figure out the name of it but I finally did and I bought it a few weeks ago.  Unfortunatly again, the record was dirty as hell as were all of the records I bought from this one discogs seller located in Florida.  This sellers records were stored in a damp dusty environment.  A few days prior to receiving the Rozzo record I found youtube videos on how cleaning a record with wood glue is actually done.  I had heard for years about this and it sounded scary but seeing that youtube video gave me the confidence to try it on a record that was so dusty I was about to throw it away.  The results were so amazing that 6+ bottles of glue later, I'm cleaning these dirty records from that Florida seller.  I was able to save so many records like Ment 4 Bass "Strings Free", Sonic Food "Ascend", and of course Rozzo.

So not only is this set about Mr. Kleen and the memorable house records of NASA REWIND in 2004, but it's a love letter to Wood Glue and the impressive cleaning power it holds for your vinyl records.

As I said this tracklist is loosely based on Mr. Kleen.  In reality its based on all of the impressive house records played that night.  The most impressive tunes that weren't straight UK 'Ardkore were the Rozzo, Masters at Work  "The Ha Dance", Pink Noise "More Energy", and DHS "The House of God" (I don't actually have the stripped down minimal mix they played but this is good enough),  These tunes impressed me as they were suppose to be house but they had much more in common with the UK 'Ardkore aesthetic.
