As a young teenager, my deejay career began in the mid 1980’s,
during the growth of the Chicago House and Detroit Techno movements. As a multi-instrumentalist (bass, guitar and
trumpet) from an early age, I have always been passionate about listening to
and discovering great music, such as the Funk, Disco, Fusion Jazz and Soul
music released in the 1970’s. Needless
to say, when I discovered the new sounds coming out of Chicago and, my
hometown, Detroit, via radio shows mixed by Charles "The Electrifying
Mojo" Johnson and Jeff Mills, it completely blew me away. This was not only attributed to the music’s
infectious beats, but also the role of the deejay in the underground dance
music scene. I wanted to become involved
and knew that becoming a deejay was the best role for my participation.
Through the mid 1990’s, I was an active deejay under a different moniker. I loved every moment of the experience, and
successfully played at various clubs, parties and functions. Furthermore, several of my mixes were played
on a radio show, “Billy T in the DMZ”, and a TV dance show, “Contempo”, distributed
via WGPR in the Detroit area.
In the mid 1990’s, I felt the need to focus more on educational and
career goals, in addition to other musical interests. Therefore, in spite of the necessity, I
regrettably discontinued to deejay with the intention of returning later in
life, which transpired in early 2012.
The primary reason for my return was because I missed the music that
inspired me to deejay many years ago and finding it, in a world where
commercialization has corrupted the dance music scene, proved to be difficult
without prudent effort. Also, I wanted
to share music with others that I enjoy and that they would not otherwise hear
from mainstream sources.
With that said, I hope you enjoy the music that I offer to share and
always keep your ears open for more!
