Im from Pretoria (Capital City of South Africa) and this is actually where deep house music actually started in SA. It all started with what we called 'International' music, this was your 'Innercity, Ten City, Blackbox, Satoshii Tomie, Frankie Knuckles, Jay Williams' etc. As the years went pass we started hearing Larry Heard, The Rurals, Kerri Chandler and thats how deep house started in SA. Unlike in most places around the world, deep house in Pretoria wasn't a genre made for clubs, it was House Parties that grew the sound. In SA it was tradition for every teenager to host a big Party for their 21st birthday. And that's how deep house got to people's ears. Dj's would bring great quality speakers and their turntables and play for the whole night. "6 to 6" is what these parties were called, this is because the party would start at six in the evening and end @ six in the morning. In order to cater for most people, the Dj would play Hip Hop from 6 till about 11 in the night. This was normally during the time when gifts were given to the host and speeches and so forth were exchanged. Oh, not forgetting the legendary 'Key' a symbol the Parents would give to their 21 year old child who has now joined adulthood.

Anyway, Deep House has come a long way. Now, its made in such a way that it can be played in Clubs i.e danceable. Back then at around 4 in the morning the Dj would turn the tempo down and start playing slower less danceable but more musically inclined sounds. This mix is an example of what the sound at that time would be. You had to be there to understand! We would bop our heards till early morning to such music. Oh what memories!!!!!!!!
