Out of all the mixtapes I ever did, this one is still my favourite. Groundbreaking for me in so many ways, messing with genres and experimenting with plugins and samples. The intro is a nod to Star Wars, then my mates, then we're off. The first track is a mash up and mixed in key with elements of The Stone Roses, which back then was no mean feat. After a wander across several tracks, we arrive at my very very first Epicentre track - Earthquake in Eden - which is where the names comes from. Some really amazing songs follow on from that in a race to the end of 'Side A'.
'Side B' starts with Pearl's Girl by Underworld, but with a twist - I'm actually playing two of the same vinyl back to back to create the flange effect in real time. Then we go on for more of the same madness that we did with 'Side A'. I never played a Radio 1 Essential Mix, but if I did I would play this.
So many memories packed into one mixtape and that's what music for me is all about really. Please press play and listen if you can. 18 years gone in a flash....
