Although only meeting in 2008, the paths of Zeina Medhat and Zaid Edghaim, a.k.a. Falasteen, have arguably been running parallel since childhood. Both born and raised in Saudi Arabia, each surrounded by music and highly influenced by traditional middle-eastern drums and Arabic strings, their love for the basic minimal elements of sound came early. Adventerous spirits and insatiable hunger for knowledge sent them each to North America at young ages, where they respectively explored their passion for music with greater intensity. With Toronto’s small but tight knit techno scene, it wasn’t long before these two found their worlds intersecting. Introduced in the late summer of 2008, the connection was immediate. To onlookers, it almost seemed as if their lives, musical connects and relationships had all intricately interwoven themselves in anticipation of their future friendship. Zeina and Zaid, simply arrived to a world awaiting their connect. They became friends and dance floor allies quickly and their musical energy and compatibility quickly became evident to themselves and others. In the Fall of 2008, local DJ/Promoter team HushLamb Prod. took notice, approaching each to sign on to the HushLamb team and offering them residency at Toi Bar. With this, Zeina and Zaid acknowledged their musical synergies and Falasteen was born. Falasteen’s love of music, holistic approach to sound/programming, the tweaks and turns, and bounces and blends, their synergies and separateness, their youthful passion and commitment to free thought, all makes this musical narrative one of inspiration and intrigue. Offering what can best be described as minimal that makes you shake, this duo is a welcome addition to Toronto’s electronic music community and a story of creative connect that has only just begun…..
