Keith James
A biography
Beat matching is a skill which can be learnt, the art of DJ'ing is a talent you’ve either got or you don’t and Keith James has got it by the bucket load. He has been a regular face on the Irish DJ circuit for some eighteen years and has become well known across the province as a major talent. His years of experience and vast musical knowledge shine through in his sets. Track selection, set building and technical ability are just a few of the trademarks that have propelled him to where he is today and blown away both his audiences and competition. Ask him what style of music he plays and he will simply say House! But this vague answer does not do his sets justice. His definition of House music encompasses several different genres; it’s just his interpretation of what that means to his audience that differs from gig to gig. So in a typical set you will get House, Deep, Tech and Tribal rhythms fused effortlessly with Minimal, Dark, but always driving Techno, set to a background of loops, EFX and showmanship, all of which combine to give him his wild, unique, unpredictable, yet always entertaining style.
He got his first break after sending out demo tapes and was given a warm-up slot at SPANK in Warrenpoint run by High On Life, one of the biggest promoters in the north at the time. A solid set led to regular gigs which saw him play at some of their hottest nights around the country, rubbing shoulders with the the likes of DJ Quicksilver, Alex P, Robbie Nelson, Mark "Jacko" Jackson and Gleave D to name but a few. Later he would make his first foray into the world of promotion, cutting his teeth running nights in bars and intimate local venues. There he played host to the best DJ's Northern Ireland had to offer, further establishing his name as one of the brightest young stars of the future. With his reputation growing, his first residency was inevitable. At Revived he found himself sharing the stage with the cream of local, international and future stars of EDM such as Godskitchen's Jon O' Bir, Gareth “GTR” Emery, Petrae Foy, Agnelli and Nelson, Chris Davis and Ryan Maxwell. Although primarily a Trance night, Keith's tough, percussive House music was the perfect accompaniment to the more uplifting music which was to come later on and it is testament to his skill and knowledge of the dance floor that he is able to work a more Trance orientated crowd whilst still maintaining his House credibility. Further residencies followed and his association with top promoters PLM and Soundsgoodmusic led Keith to being formally recognised as one of the top break through Dj's in the country. Collectively known as Generation X, they were described by key industry figures as "an exciting mix of raw talent, with a passion to take electronic dance music to the next level." As a member of Generation X Keith got the opportunity to showcase his talent up and down the country, culminated in a set at the 10,000 sell-out behemoth that is Planet Love, Northern Ireland's largest outdoor festival.
When he is not DJ'ing you will find him in his studio working on tracks and remixes and doing exclusive edits for use in his sets. As a self confessed gadget and technology freak, he is always looking for new ways to enhance the performance. Currently playing semi live with a hybrid Traktor/Ableton and controller setup, he continues to push the boundaries of the traditional DJ set. Now working for Essential Music Promotions, and part of the hugely influential ProducerNI group along with fellow Generation X member Camroc, Keith is forging ahead with his career and further cementing his status as one of the top DJ's in the pr
