Hello, and welcome to my mix for the ‘A History Of House’ mix series, featuring 60 minutes of House music that shaped the scene we love today, and inspired my love for house music all those years ago.

It’s a hand picked selection of the most influential songs in my personal journey as a House music DJ, the tracks that first introduced me to House music, and the ones that inspired me to play it. Some remind of a place in time, others of a long forgotten era, but all, in their own way, were seminal in shaping what I do today. So while the tracks I’ve included in my mix may not be everyone’s first choices I’m sure you’ll agree they well deserve their place in this compilation.

I thank you for checking out my mix, if you like it PLEASE SHARE IT via the social network icons above, and help yourself to a FREE DOWNLOAD too.

You can find me on Facebook at:  http://www.facebook,com/djlouielopez

This mix is also available via iTunes, 3Pl>Y, Beatport and Chicagosounds.

Extra special thanks to Rob the sound engineer for all his hard work digitally re-mastering very old crackly vinyl, and to Ross for the use of his beautiful studio.

Below is a brief extract from the accompanying press interview for this mix.

With so many great tracks from across the history of House music, how did you go about selecting the tracks you used in your mix?”:

Well, I have to admit it took me quite a long time for me to finally settle on the tracks I wanted to use. I had to whittle thousands and thousands of tracks down to just 12. Originally I did the obvious thing of just picking out the songs I loved the best, the ‘reach to’ classics in my bag, but I wasn’t happy with the resulting mix, it just didn’t work and I felt the track selection was a little too ‘safe’. Next I checked out all the available track-listings for the previous 37 mixes in the series, not to steal ideas, but to simply see if any of the tracks I’d selected had been used much before. I was amazed to see some tracks cropping up again and again.so once again, another set list was scrapped. I was close to giving up when my wife suggested I just look deep into my soul and remember what it was about House music that I first fell in love with. What were the songs that sparked that love. It was then that I realised that instead of doing a mix of classic tracks that were the soundtrack to other peoples lives I should put together a mix that was the soundtrack to MY life, and from then on it was pretty easy. To be honest I found the whole process very therapeutic, and it was great to just spend hours & hours listening to songs I hadn’t played in years, I’d forgotten just how inspirational some of those songs had been on me and my later musical choices, as well as rediscovering some great tracks I’d forgotten all about.

I’ve always been known for playing slightly obscure remixes of classic tracks, or at least different mixes to those played by other DJ’s, and there’s also a couple of re-edits in there too, so when I sat back and looked at my final chosen tracks I immediately noticed that even though the tracks had been used before, the particular remixes I’d chosen hadn’t. Hence the reason this mix has been dubbed the ‘remixes’ album, as not all the tracks are the original mixes and some are ‘later-on’ re-edits. Hopefully there’ll be some new versions of classics on there that you may have not heard before, and also some unexpected choices, but I’m sure you’ll agree they well deserve their place in this mix.

Are there any songs you wish you had included but didn’t?”:

Haha, yes there are a couple. I really wanted to use Nitro Deluxe – Lets Get Brutal but I couldn’t find a clean copy of it anywhere (my vinyl copy is beyond playable and digital copies seem to be impossible to find),the same goes for Tru Faith – Take Me Away. I had also planned to use Lonni Clarke – Rushin’ and Alison Limmerick – Where Love Lives but both had been included over and over again in the mix series so I left them out.

To be honest as soon as the mix was submitted I thought of about 20 songs I’d wished I’d included, but I guess that’s the problem with being limited to just a 1 hour mix, there’s always going to be songs that have to be left out.

But all in all im very  very happy with my final selection. I hope you guys are too.
