Bio
Xavier Steel is the quintessential underground dj. With a career spanning over a decade in the Philadelphia and New York scenes, Xavier has earned a name for himself by leaving audiences in his wake, begging for more. His sound has evolved significantly over time and is deeply rooted in soul, with influences of detroit reminiscent techno dashed with chicago-style disco grooves, usually with his own modern twists. Xavier's career in nightlife started as a promoter at the age of 14, when he was naturally drawn to a newly developing South Asian scene in New York City. Although music was always the calling, Xavier had pretty much worn every hat in the industry before he realized it. Having managed several artists, a night club, and several other ventures including motivational speaking. Honing in those leadership skills have allowed him to effectively set the stage, both for his own career and that of many others. Xavier had always dabbled in the art of dj-ing growing up, some of his best friends were very accomplished djs who he came to eventually mange. Although, his first time in the dj booth (live) didn't come till 2001 when one of his headliners was a no-show at a heavily promoted event he was hosting in Philadelphia @ The Trocadero. Xavier was forced to enforce the first rule of show business…the show must go on! "I still remember that moment, I was nervous, I was pissed, I was excited... it felt great. We had a packed crowd and my opener couldn't stay the whole night. I had a buddy who was a dj who couldn't be there for at least another hour, so I had no choice I had to hold it down. And I knew exactly what to play! I remember reaching into a crate of records they had behind the booth, hoping i could find what i was looking for. And i did. I put the needle on the record and without a second thought, cut into it twice and dropped it. That record was Krs-One - Step Into A World." - "I was banking on the fact that in my experience Philly hip hop fans have a deep respect for the roots, how can you not in our nation's first capitol! And they did...and the rest is history!" From this first taste, Xavier developed an undying thirst for the awkward nervousness and pure ecstasy one feels when commanding audiences into a dancing frenzy. There was no turning back, he spent the next 2 1/2 years focusing on his new found art form mastering every angle of it. Although he admits, its an on going process, Xavier has developed a reputation as a relentless mixologist and prides himself on mastering any medium available. He is known to show up with the latest gadets to gigs, incorporating them into his sets creating a completely unique and unprecedented performance each time! Currently Xavier is working on his first EP and is highly focused on translating his performance into his own sound. You can find him monthly on www.our-house-radio.com, along with monthly podcasts on itunes or keep up with him via @xaviersteel. To this day he still remains true to his roots, donating his time and energy into putting South Asians on the map. Hosting a bi-weekly radio show for @radioasiafm1 called Bollywood Afterhours which airs Mondays & Wednesdays @ 9 PM alongside Maxx Entertainment's DJ Amish & G. Singh! One thing is for sure, no matter where you encounter Xavier you're sure to have and epic experience.
