Opening track.... - Settin' the vibez. Male vocals, sharp bassline, and high hats. Rakim's classic vocal sample, "Clap your hands." 5:20 mark - CLASSICK. Redhead Kingpin and the F.B.I., "Do the right thing 1989" the stutter percussion on this had a unique sound when compared to the other productions of the era. 9:40 - AHHH YEAH. Male vocals, "That's the way love is," Friday night after work synth, the giddy anticipation. 13:55 - Male vocals, smooth drag-gait cadence. 17:40 - Rollin' \\0//. Male vocals, "I been watchin' you," funky drummer bassline. https://i.imgur.com/stsRUjO.jpg - 21:15 - hehheh. Male vocals, "Got to take it off," and the drama wit' it; key melody. 24:25 - A STAPLE. Guy, "Teddy's Jam 1988." Like every time....this track makes you want to dance. 28:05 - Solid transition. Hi-Five, "Just can't handle it 1990," A GROOVER. 33:05 - VIBIN'. Male vocals, "Girl I want to groove ya tonight." Classic turntablist breaks. 36:00 - WOW. I haven't this one in ages! Stanley Foort, "You Got Me Goin' Crazy 1991," DEFINITIVE NJS sound. 40:10 - Mac Band (feat. The McCampbell Brothers), "Roses Are Red 1988." Produced by LA Reid and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, love jam legends. If you got married back then, this one played at the reception. 42:20 - DRUMS. Classic horn sample from Stevie Wonder "You can feel it all over 1976." 46:25 - Bell Biv Devoe (BBD), "She's Dope (EPOD Mix)! 1991" Notice the CATCHY synth cascade legendary producer Marley Marl added on this remix. 51:10 - And you can't mention BBD without Boyz II Men to boot; "Sympin' Ain't Easy 1992." Both these groups were all over the Top 40 charts back then. 54:30 - YEP. De La Soul, "Say No Go 1989." HOUSE FUNK. The vocal sample they hijacked from Hall & Oates, perfection. 59:20 - Pleading Male vocals, "Whatever it takes my love." Ahhhh geeeez lol. The memories of box fade haircuts most of us young cats had in uni days. And man, talking on the landline phone for hours in the dorm room with this tracking playing in the background. Dudes would be too scared to go to the loo because it would interrupt the heavy conversation, HA! 62:00 - Chubb Rock. One of the most distinctive lyricists of the era. Vets recognize his voice when we hear it. 65:25 - Johnny Gill, "Rub You the Right Way 1990." His vocals let the ladies know, he would do everything he told you he was gonna do. 70:15 - Janet Jackson (feat Heavy D), "Alright 1990." Heavy D's lyrical bit gave this track House music appeal. Janet's voice was as poppy as Michael's, so adding that element gave her a little extra crossover cred. 75:20 - Arts & Crafts, "What a Feeling 1990," from the film "House Party." That film helped introduce NJS into pop culture. 76:50 - CLASSICK. Big Daddy Kane, "I Get the Job Done 1989" All headz know this one. Again, Teddy Riley's production with Kane's lyrical delivery and smooth voice....minty heat.

- DJ Huey really dove in and gathered must-have tracks for New Jack Swing fans. This is the third installment in a series that's up to part 8 as I'm blogging this. A lot of the tracks on this set have that Hip-House sound which helped bridge Hip-Hop to House music. NJS had a fresh and unique sound when it came out. Literally, it and UK's Garage sound, nothing had sounded like those genres before. These vibez were all bout' the era fashion, soulful grooves for background music, and youthfully having an unbridled "love buzz." Dudes wanted to sing these tracks to their ladies and then get down to naughty business. Ah yeah, and be at a house party, all at the same time. (1 hr 21 mins - NOSTALGIA GOLD!)
