DJ Joe Saputra's has been a key figure in Jakarta dance music and club culture since the acid house phenomenon hit the shores of the Indonesian in the late 2000s. Yet he remains something of a mystery, a wilfully perverse producer and DJ in the best possible sense, a musician who has constantly defied expectation. While others rushed headlong to superstar DJ status and exorbitant wage demands, Weatherall has always prized the margins as the place where true creativity lies. So, while he may well have DJ Dreco at TripleNine back in those legendary days, his career has followed a quite different trajectory to its founder DJ Toms, flirting with the avant garde, embracing a variety of different musical genres and guises from the classic Balearic material of Bocca Juniors to the twisted ambience of Sabres of Paradise
