For this competition, I decided to go back to the roots of
house music (well almost) with a selection of modern remixes of classic 80’s house
tracks.

I’m not gonna take your time by telling the history of house
music as I’m pretty sure you already seen the documentary Pump Up The
Volume.  If not, you should!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1HpY65cXDA

With this mix, I want  to remind
all DJ’s young and old, that all 80’s DJ’s grew up with those wonderful
sounds.

Also, I’m not gonna brag about how I made this mix.  I had enough time in my life mixing with
turntables, I don’t feel it’s necessary to show you that I can do it.  On the other hand, I don’t think that mixing
with modern software is simple as many thinks.
To do a perfect mix, it’s not about pushing the sync button, it’s about
the search for the best tracks, the best transitions possible and to put it all
together.

My mix is not a sample of a weekly show or something I put
up in only an hour, it’s something unique for this competition, something that
took me a few hours to do.

First track is a remix of Theme from S-Express  by Vanilla Ace.  S-Express was a british band formed in 1988
also known for the Track Superfly Guy .
The track Theme From S-Express was an acid house track using samples of Rose
Royce « Is It Love You're After ».

Second track is a remake of M|A|R|R|S’ « Pump Up The
Volume » by House Rules.  The song
was released in 1987 and is one of the best known house track still today as it
got a fairly good success in commercial charts all over the world.

Third track is a remix of the House Master Boyz’s « House
Nation by Doorly.  The House master Boyz
was a name used by Farley "Jackmaster" Funk for that release.

Fourth track is a remix of Kenny 'Jammin' Jason « Can U
Dance » by Hatiras.  Can U Dance was
produced in collaboration with Fast Eddie Smith, one of the pioneers of house
music in Chicago.

Fifth track is a remix of Royal House’ « Can You Party »
by Steve Mac.  Royal House was a band
headed by house legend Todd Terry.  He is
considered as the father of both progressive and modern deep house.

Sixth track is a remix of Amnesia’s « Ibiza » by
Coqui Selection.  Amnesia was originally
a one man project that emerged in the acid house and new beat movement of the
late 80’s.

Seventh track is a remix of Hithouse’s « Jack To The
Sound Of The Underground ».  Peter
Slaghuis is behind the name Hithouse and was a popular figure in the european
dance music scene of the late 80’s.  Unfortunatly,
Slaghius passed away in a car accident in1991.

Eight track is Obsession by Technasia.  Obsession is a track using almost entirely
Lil’ Louis’ track « French Kiss » wich is well known for a lady
expressing her pleasure at mid point in the song. J

Ninth track is a collaboration of Benny Bennasi and Marshall
Jefferson, known as the father of house music.  Together, they actualized classic « Move
Your Body »  Move Your Body
is the first house song using piano and is considered as the house music
anthem.

Final track is a remix of
Technotronic’s « Pump Up The Jam » by Criminal Vibes.  Pump Up The Jam is one of the most, if not
the one best know house track ever.
