Original Emo emerged from the post-hardcore scene in the late 80's/early 90's and had a large underground following.
Often labelled as Midwest Emo or 90's Emo. The music tends to alternate loud and soft dynamics; off-key, strained or "whiny" vocals with little screaming; and "twinkly" arpeggiated guitar parts.
