Follow on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/donnychristian6 DJ PROFILE: Donny only started beatmatching at the age of 21; he always enjoyed raving to old skool garage and house music but never thought he could actually mix. It was only 'till he got messing with some MP3 mixing software (Atomix)...........then caught the bug. Instead of going down the electronic route he managed to grab some dirt-cheap Technics SL-1210 Mk3 decks & SH-DJ1200 mixer (for a bargain £500) and was soon trawling the record shops of London and eBay tracking down those rare-as-rockinghorse-sh*t tunes! Over time (and £££s spent!) he has built up a vast & extensive collection of the very best Old Skool Garage nostalgic tunes from 1997-2002; he likes to call this the 'Golden Era'. Many, many hours of practise behind the decks gave him the skills and confidence to take the plunge and jet out to Laganas, Zante in 2005 for the entire summer to share his talent. There, he immediately gained residency in Wackabout/Sabotage Club and also DJ'd guest nights at Amnesia Nightclub, Club Black & White and Footprint Beach Bar. Since his return he has played out at various bars/clubs and private functions around London & Surrey such as Wimbledon, Croydon and Clapham. Apart from Old Skool Garage, he specialises in and Funky/Disco/Electro House which has mainly been driven by his passion for anything Hed Kandi – he owns a massive collection of their CD compilations dating back since 2004. His funky house collection on vinyl ranges from 1999-Present though! Donny always has the crowd in mind and endeavours to give them what they want to hear. He loves to know his music inside-out so can drop tunes at the perfect spot to keep them jumping all night. Music-wise he is pretty versatile; he can also mix Trance and Drum & Bass. His partner in crime Mike Chadwick is also somewhat of a master around the decks who specialises in HipHip and R&B of all years so, together will always have something in their boxes for the masses! The Beatfreeks birth name is John Pleece and he was born on the eve of July, and is currently residing in the leafy suburbs of Surrey, United Kingdom. He was introduced to music at a fairly young age, when John was growing up his Dad used to play bass guitar, write and perform backing vocals in his own band, also his Dad used to be part of a DJ duo, playing out at weddings and parties and John helped out with the setting up of the rig, and this is how The Beatfreeks story began. John has been mixing records for near enough 14 years now and he is a self-taught vinyl DJ, originally mixing Drum & Bass, Techno and Trance, and although The Beatfreek is still a vinyl connoisseur at heart, he felt that is was time to make the switch over to a digital DJ set up. The Beatfreek has also been known under other aliases such as Psyvibes, DJ JT and Jonny P. Under his Jonny P moniker, he had held various radio residencies with regular live shows per week. It was tough to keep to the schedule but his drive, determination and a passion for fresh music kept him going, you could say that music was his drug of choice. The Beatfreek also Co-founded, Co-owned a digital only record label: Thee Unknown Recordings, and he also ran his own internet radio station too. Finally he ran his digital record label alongside Tyler Deveneaux and in later days Solace One, but due to personal issues beyond their control the label was eventually dis-banded. Label History: Thee Unknown Recordings was a digital only record label, releasing electronic music in various dance music genres. The project was originally thought up way back in late 2008 by two friends Tyler Deveneux, and Jonny Teknotik (who would later be re-named Jonny P). These two friends had shared a mutual interest in countless music genres, so it made perfect sense that these two friends eventually formed a musical partnership. When Thee Unknown Recordings was in it`s fledgling year they were simply named Thee Unknown. Thee Unknown was the chosen persona of the duo's musical partnership, with Tyler supplying the duos tracks and Jonny was the duos DJ, DJing under the name Jonny P, and playing out live with residencies on various radio stations. The duos passion for fresh music grew, and they decided to branch out and approach budding producers with the intention to set up their own record label, and this is how Thee Unknown Recordings was born. Present Day: After his record label and radio station closed it's doors, The Beatfreek has thrown himself back into his mixing. He now concentrates on experimenting and mixing with Hard Trance, Techno, Drum & Bass, and all things psychedelic. On a final note Jonny has also ventured into the world of producing, producing Drum & Bass and Techno, and is also the Co-Owner and in-house DJ of a new experimental record label: THB Records which he now runs with his brother.
