My second residency as a DJ was between 1985-1987 at the Continental, Buffalo's only Punk/Post Punk club. I manned the booth and it was the first time I was able to program music I wanted to spin, the owner, Bud Burke never even mentioned my Playlist, because the second floor would be packed every weekend. The ambiance in the room was simple and the patrons were complex. Music was exciting and new, and directly countered the Top 40 mundanity that surrounded us.
I spun Thursdays and alternating Saturdays, from 11pm to 4am. All types of people were regulars, it was the first time I'd seen people dance alone if they wanted. The system was strong, the servo bass bins made everything just pop.
This mix is dedicated to my friend Kitty, whom I met during my time there, she mentioned some of the songs in this mix the other day.
