DJ Mister E
I started out as a garage DJ spinning vinyl across south and west London in the mid-late 1990s. It started as I began collecting the Vinyls of my favourite tunes that i heard on pirate radio. The 1 minute TDK recordings just wouldnt do!! From there on friends turntables i started to mix the vinyls and eventually taught myself how to DJ. As i got older I started making a name for myself on the pirate radio stations i had once listened to, and enjoyed sets at parties and eventually nightclubs like Corks wine bar, Imperial Gardens and the legendary Caesers nightlub in Old Kent Road.
Living in central London meant clubland was inevitable and the location had its advantages. A heavy influence in my musical taste was garnered from the clubs I went to, and that were literally on my doorstep: SW1 Club, Adrenalin Village, Club Collisseum, Koo club, Gass club and of course a worthy mention goes to Caesers nightclub on the Old Kent Road!!!
After a showcase on the Dreem Team's show on Radio 1 with the NAP syndicate in late 2001, things looked good in the garage scene and club bookings and radio appearances became the norm. At this point however the UK Garage scene had started to crumble and other genres of music became my own, and clublands focus of interest. I found the old original US Garage sound mixed with the emergence of the new funky house sound was the way forward. At this point i became dissilusioned with the djing scene and took time away. I never stopped playing the music however and churned out a line of mix cds that gave me a platform to build on for the future.
In 2007 one of these mix cds came to the attention of someone at an internet radio station called Phatbeats.net. Here i started a radio show playing the garage sound that had caused me to fall in love with dance music and become a dj. My show eventually took on the name "education" as after every show i would get inundated via msn messenger and the newly formed Facebook, by people asking me for the names and details of the records i played.
In the meantime I started my own Education branded nights in my hometown of Pimlico. Without promotion or advertisement these monthly local events flourished through 2008. They were based on both the house and garage genres, and often sold over 200 tickets!!
In summer/autumn 2009 I started to guest on pirate radio shows on the radio station "Icecoldfm". (now www.imageradio.com) I was eventually offered a regular slot on the station. I brought with me another DJ from "Phatbeats.net" J Da Buddah to form a busy drive time radio show, that included guests such as music producers, artists, singers, mcs and even glamour models!! showcasing their talents or promoting themselves. J Da Buddah was a well known House music DJ and his presence rubbed off on me immensely, especially with the emergence of the UK Funky house scene in London. It was at this time that my musical taste and passion truly changed, and house music and its many different genres started to flood my radio and club sets. I tried to do this while still maintaining the EDUCATION brand by playing new and old music alike that people werent so familiar with.
In late 2010 the Education brand had spread to Pacha, hosting the Global room there for House music Promoters "Flawless". This relationship flourished with 4 successful events between oct 2010 and april 2011, and two more planned for autumn 2011. A trip to Ibiza with Flawless in the summer of 2011 again really changed my musical direction. This time towards the deeper, tech, and soulful sounds of house
This site and its platform to show off mixes will hopefully allow me to show the house music lovers from around the world what EDUCATION is all about and spread the gospel of GOOD MUSI
