A self indulgent extended show celebrating my own B'day this week and thus thought mmmm, a nice trip down the vibes of memory lane methinks, of course, an obligatory level of classics intermingled BUT also some #digs and therefore what i'd consider freshness suitable for a #strangecargo, loved up, locked in affair. Bit of a booze up, bit of a wiggle kinda grooves that I thought may be suitable for us all to see in this weekender together with.

I'm dedicating this particular show to an old classic DJ of the time, he's actually the man that probably introduced me to the concept of Balearic Music, although sure neither of us would have labelled it as such, at the time. DJ Sean French was a total legend to me and my pals, as the first conversation we ever had was about a very wrecked me and my double-spangled pal to get off the steps so his spaceship could land. He was a good decade older than us and a well versed veteran of the UK Soul Scene historically, BUT at the stage where we met him, he was mixing in all sorts of disparate gems that just seemed to work so magically to our ears at the time. As such we immediately adopted him as a honourable kind of uncle & personally I made damn sure I was right down the front for each and every one of his scheduled sets.

He did a night in Fleet, Hampshire UK called Tusk and was a regular at the reactor room for different kinda sounds at the Prestatyn Soul Weekends in North Wales that we regularly used to turn up mob handed along with hundreds of other ex b.boys and soul boy type crews who would converge twice a year for a jolly good knees up and experience a world class roster of live acts, and accomodation over 3 days with 5000 likeminded little hooligans ha ha It was madness, it was great, reckless, and highly memorable with heaps of laughing, loads of dancing and a total love for the music which had grown totally organically from the streets and council estates, mostly overlooked by the formula based pop industry of the time. As such it was our first foray into independent and revolutionary aspects, learning to grow free of parental constraints as we snuck out, lied about where we came from to get into clubs, how old we were etc and all just basically in the name of doing "our thing" which always seemed to revolve around a dancefloor and a load of young loons giving it rock all as best they could. Hopefully, this mix may bring back a few memories of that time and era, a formative and influential time for me personally for sure. Do hope you find something to enjoy in here?

Episode 5 of 13 this week and the remainder of this mini-series can be perused below. The initial plan and directive was 13 weeks, 13 favoured rabbit holes of interest within my collection, 13 seperate journeys all crafted from the departments from which I would craft live sets. Thus far, sofari so goodie as Biggins would say and hopefully this one may also go down as favourable in your ears?

Don't forget to catch us live, its weekly Fri nights, until at least 2am, add an hour for xmas and new year editions until 3am UK time via www.soullegendsradio.co.uk - a place of #norules, made with your discerning eardrums in mind, we dig far and wide to try and excavate fresh sounds from long established vibes and place a lot of emphasis on sharing the lesser known or forgotten aspects of music. It's kinda cultish librainship and musical hoarding for trainspotters with open minds, it's about irking the purists, sharing great music, rediscovering lost art and artists and trying to lovingly cobble them together. Hopefully a suitable option and choice for your regular satuday morning coffee and subsequent start to the weekend at hand! :-)

Do you fancy some #retro, #dancefloor, pre-rave action and a trip down memory lane? If so, I may have just the thing for your ears this Saturday morning. A glimpse back in time, to another place. A place of fond remembrance for many a dancer and record buyer. This is the sound of pre-rave England as experienced via the weekenders, the all dayers and the jolly boys outings of the day!
